Wasnt the main change the size of the sump? The problem ones had a 5 litre sump which was upped to 8 litres.

Either drain the sump into a bucket at the dealers yard ;) or check the handbook.

discoservice

Hey Phippsey, Im in Hervey Bay as well, was wondering if youve used the local landrover guys andersons. Ive got a few things that need sorting on my newly acquired 96 tdi. Their prices for second hand seem a lot better than britishoffroad on the Sunshine Coast so far. Any one else in the bay youd ...

Ive had a 96 disco tdi for a couple of weeks now. All good so far except for a water leak which is yet to be sorted. Economy is great and sweet to drive. Heard the auto is much stronger than the manual so went that way. Mines got a 140k on it and still feels new car tight. Bit wary of electric ...

sump draining

My farmer neighbours recommended this same approach for removing the last dregs of oil out of the sump. Not sure about 5 to 8 seconds I think it was more like a couple of seconds. They ran several hundred thousand dollars of diesel machinery (tractors, trucks, 4bs)and were highly respected as diesel ...

gq clutch/box problem?

hey guys, in my eternal quest for the "right" gq I have come across another candidate which of course is miles away All sounds pretty sweet except when questioned on clutch owner reports gear changes are very tight for first few klms but then are normal. Reckons clutch doesnt slip at all. He's ...

thanks for the offer Chris and the advise MQ. I think Ill keep looking for an easier option, dont really fancy recurring rust problems on another vehicle when there are clean ones around, although having just looked at a full gq body on ebay I reckon that or one similar could be a goer, probably ...

I looked at doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago till one part of the deal went bad. There was a guy selling a front cut from a 4.2 gq for $3k negotiable. Was in the NSW trading post but Im guessing its gone now.

Youll also need new diffs to keep the same ratio.

new gq needs new donk

just bought a 96 gq with a dead td42 (wrong! its a 2.8) factory turbo. Apparently idler bearing? came loose after a timing belt change and number 1 piston smacked into head (ouch!) Looking at replacing with a na engine (no air) from a 94/95 series, done approx 200k, and bolting on air and turbo from ...

The courier is the bargain of this lot atm, after lots of price checking and haggling I got firm prices of single cab td on road with air, tray and tow for $26k, dual cab just on $30k. Its a big $ more for any of the others. Still comes back to what sort of driving carrying you need to do

td4.2 GQ oil usage

Question about a 4.2 diesel (no turbo) lwb GQ with about 270k on the clock. Uses about 1.5-2 ltrs of oil between 5000klm oil changes. Driving is mainly highway at about 100km p/h. Is this within a normal range or idicative of wear? Doesnt blow any smoke or fume afaik. As I understood it the 4.2 ...

BJ40 repair or sell as is

Ive got a 78 BJ40 which I let the rego lapse on, (just use it for around the property) which I'll need to sell to help finance a larger vehicle. It has some rust in the floor pans and where the front pillars meet the floor but otherwise is pretty good. Mechanically seems to be no probs and as far as ...
