Not common at all.
Maybe a rear engine seal. Mine did 250 000 km I replaced it because I did the clutch. No leaking at the time. It has now done 286 000 km and still not one leak.

Looks like a good gadget however I am measuring the EGT after the turbo not between the exhaust ports and turbo inlet.

My thermoguard one is mounted after the turbo and I do not exceed 550 degrees for very long. On cruising it sits around the 350 degree mark. I have been doing fine adjustments to suit so I don't melt anything.

I have unsuccessfully tried to find out from Toyota what the maximum EGT should be for my 2003 LC TD. I have installed a pyrometer just after the turbo as I have a Dtronic installed and often tow a 4 ton van. I need to know the safe max. temperature but have run into a brick wall with the dopes at ...

The part number is 31086-VC200.
They sell between $23.00 and $40.00. It appears Nissan are beginning to sell them retail now. Their excuse was that the auto took special oil, big deal.
If you have a co-operating local dealer you shouldn't have any dramas.
