A high mount has the winch motor mounted above the cable drum with the drive via a spur gearbox on the side. The high mounts offer superior line speed so thats why lots of guys use them for comp work, as well they have an external brake that doesn't heat up the drum so they're ok for plasma rope ...

The bearings on the two idlers for the a/c and the tensioner for the serpentine belt should all be the same-I've just replaced all 3 on my 300tdi. Just remember that the one on the serpentine tensioner is a left hand thread on the pulley bolt. If its still got the stupid rover circlip without any ...

Anthony at British 4WD in Bayswater had trouble when he did my diff pinion seal. Apparently they corrode in there and almost weld themselves together. Hes had ones that broke the puller and still wouldn't co-operate....You could try hitting it with the oxy and see if some heat does the trick. If you ...

Tweaked Tdi & swaybar disconnects.
I've tweaked my 300tdi in the D1 according to the details on this forum and it is running better with noticeably more go. A hill I couldn't get up while maintaining 60kmh, I now need to back off on....Just installed a EGT gauge/pyrometer to keep an eye on things too. (PM if you want details of this ...

I've been quoted $1100 inc tax for a set of diesel injectors for my 300tdi. Is this right??? Seems pretty expensive; any thoughts? The diesel specialist I asked reckons the old ones are down by around 15% and I was wondering if I'd replace them and tweak the motor for a bit more power, or just leave ...

I got an Airflow one through Duncans 4wd at the last Wandin field day. They're considerably cheaper than Safari, though you do have to move your airbox and dick around a bit to get it to fit right, but apart from that no real probs....Cheers Chris.

dave, sounds tempting, but i think i'd prefer a full locker in the rear....i'm familiar with the ARB from mates cars, i was just concerned whether my stock axles would be up to it or not. (can anyone tell me whether my axles are the better ones or the weak ones???)

serg, I've already got an ARB compressor. What do m/d use for actuation, is it vacuum or solenoid or would the compressor be needed?? Can anyone give me an idea of the cost for a rear m/d?? Ta Chris.

Hi guys, i've recently purchased a '97 tdi auto, and i want to fit a rear locker. I've put in a 2" lift and am running 225/75 BFG a/t's. I am not planning on going up much more in diameter until these boots are knackered, will probably stay pretty standard....and i don't drive with a heavy right ...
