if you have a 8.25 you are a lucky man!!!! they are rare as hens teeth in Oz and a shit load stronger than a D35. Try getting them from a KJ chreokee, they also use 8.25s. $400 isn't that bad...but maybe try out some US sites (eg. rawbrown.com)...my as well upgrade to some cromo axles if you plan on ...

My rear one's making some pretty bad sounds at the moment and i plan to upgrade it and air lock it as soon as i can afford to. It had a tyical ring and pinion whine and the LSD squeels when one wheel spins.

Is it safe to drive on it for a bit or is it likely to blow to bits and what will happen ...

The Trepadores, according to the maxxis website come in 30" and 31" tyres, then it jumps to 35 inch size......WTF?

What happened to a set of these in 33/12.5x15 or 285/75x16 ?

detroit tru-tracs are gear driven LSDs they dont wear out like clutch packed LSDs used normally in factory fittings. they work comparably yo a soflocker however, they will slip under high strenous conditions which may be a good thing if you dont want something else to let go or a bad if you needed ...

The trac-loc (factory) LSD is not a locker too. It is a clutch pack LSD that usually shits itself after about 100K. It is no match to a gear driven LSD for durability and traction like a Detroit tru-trac which is more comparable to a soft locker.

can do, he prolly needs to extend his bumpstops cos it doesnt matter how much lift he has, the tyre will end up in the sameplace unless bumpstopped correctly.

33s is pretty serious for an XJ (an XJ on 31s will keep up with patrols running 33s...they have smaller diff pumpkins and therefore comparable clearance); you will need at least a 4" lift for 33s with guard trimming . There are a bunch of kits or options to look at. What do you want from the kit ...

thanks mate, I appreciate the advise. Looks like I have a small project this weekend and Im looking forward to it. Your advise has also saved money as diff locks were my next purchase but I had better change the ratios first.

trust us. if you do your ratios then do your lockers at the same time ...

how tame is tame? 2-3" lift, front swaybar discos, good set of 31s and lockers will keep up with nisyotas with 33s no probs. for 32s and bigger guard trimming is required and of course more lift (which will require a slip yoke eliminator/SYE or a transfer case drop in the interim). might want to ...

i just got these in 31s fitted in my XJ ca. 1 month ago. i have used em offroad, and seem pretty good in very wet gready steep hills and mud, i was using simex muddies b4 and the trepadors are heaps quieter, bettter road performance and handling. so far I cant fault them.

whats the 2.5L D from? if its an XJ stay away from em....only familair with the 2.8L CRD sorry...

ive looked into trussing and doing the super 35 kit, its very exxy and ended up getting a Dana 44 from a TJ (that i have to fab, lock and re-gear -in progress) which will be still stronger and cheaper than a super 35.

i could be wrong, but thought the ZJs have a D35 rear diff. If thats the case, than 32s is the biggest recomended size esp if you lock it. The D44 would hold out locked with 35s and there are heaps of axle upgrades, lockers and artios avaliable (for all Dana diffs in Jeeps).

rear diff = Dana44
front diff = Dana30

look, I dont think my statement is entirely incorrect. I didn't want to elaborate too much on this issue just becuase 4wd monthly made a point of it...I dont think it is as a big deal as they make out. Its NOT the sole reason to stop someone from buying an XJ. just my opinion.
