You can't get parts for the original alternators anymore. The diode packs are the most common thing to go.

Why not take it to a battery place or auto elect to get them to put a meter on it - it could ...

Like all diesels, it depends how they've been maintained....

HOWEVER....

The 3.0 TD before about 2004 had all sorts of issues with melting pistons. They have the nick name "grenade". The jury is still out on the later models.

20l/100 sounds about right. Heavy vehicle and only a little engine. There's a few on here that have added gas and turbos - although that is mostly to the 4.2 petrol.

Don't know if your mate wants to spend money to cut down on running costs or not.

They're 54mm. about $25 on ebay, not sure what you'd pay in the stores.

Not done one myself, but have read posts recommending that you need to replace the lock washers on the hubs as you can ...

Make up a braket to replace the one across the top of the battery so that it can be bolted to the guard (using the bolt that's already there).

This will stop the top of the battery being able to move and make the mounting much stronger. (hope you don't mind me editing your image ;) )

I have worn through the rubber button on the key. I've tried search and didn't find anything useful.

The key and electrics still work, but I want to try and replace the rubber button before dirt and crap gets in and stuffs the whole thing.

i just found that I've got a broken exhaust mount just forward of the flex joint. Took me ages to find it and it didn't sound like it was coming from there.

Didn't some of the GQ Ti models come out with twin spot front calipers that meant a 16" rim was required? Or was this only on the Petrol EFI models?

not sure if the wagon is the same as the ute, but I've been told that to do a 2" lift properly I would need swaybar extensions and a castor correction kit.

Does the GU ute or wagon have a brake proportioning valve that needs modding after lift like my old GQ did?

I'm getting castor correction bushes as I've been told I should need to fit them (and searching around here seems to suggest it).

Question is, are they easy to get the angles correct etc, or am I better to get someone to fit them for me? I'm on ...
