Re: setting pnion depth
Yep, definately the rear. Pulling the diff down, and pressing out the pinion takes minutes if you have the right tools. i bought a cheap Shop press ($100) and it is wonderful! only takes a couple seconds to press the pinion out, and slightly longer to press it back in. http://www.gearinstalls.com ...

Re: New nitro diff gears and solid pinion spacer.
so got the pinion bearing off as i had to buy a new bearing splitter.
But for the life of me, i am unable to get the pinion seal out.
i have read on here AND in the Haynes manual that it is easy to pull out. but it is just jammed. Cant get it out.
Any help?

Re: New nitro diff gears and solid pinion spacer.

I have the right spacer, the right gears, and what appears to be the right housing, but it just doesnt appear right. i am going to mock it all up, see if i can set preload ok and that it all ...

Re: New nitro diff gears and solid pinion spacer.
Hopefully get that pinion bearing off tomorrow and put it on the new pinion to mock it up and see if it all fits and if i can set the pre-load correctly. would i be correct in saying that the pinion having 10 teeth and the crown having 43 makes it a 4.3:1 ratio diff? took another couple pics. Old ...

Re: New nitro diff gears and solid pinion spacer.
i was under the impression there was only drama's fitting the gears in the older housings, which needed a different bearing installed. i have Chris from locktup chasing this up for me at the moment. Original ratio. not 100% sure, but when i jumped under the truck and spun the tailshaft, i got about ...

well, the crush tube is the old one, so it is crushed... does the tube "un-crush" when pressure is removed from it???

Re: New nitro diff gears and solid pinion spacer.
Yes, i think i will have to ring and inquire.
the spacer came with a set of shims, but nowhere near enough to make it the same size as the crush tube...
ugh...

New nitro diff gears and solid pinion spacer.
after recently ordering a set of 4.88's and solid pinion spacer, i have just start pulling the diff down and put the new and old pinions side by side. The solid spacer seems to be a heap shorter then the original crush tube... Does this look correct? http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c351/LowIsuzu ...

TJ front diff problems
My friend has an 04 TJ with 4.88s and an arb air locker in each diff. He has recently noticed the front diff making a noise, sorta hard to explain the noise, cross between a knock and a tick when driving, but only when he is accelerating. not when it is coasting. He took it to a 4wd shop, they ...

Hi All, i am putting back together a 3L motor, and it has been many years since i rebuilt a motor, Nowadays it seems that Metal gaskets are used for just about everything. my question is, with these gaskets, do i need to use a gasket sealer like permatex or something on these, or does tightening ...
