It has a button, it says "RD LOCK" Rear Differential Lock, Its located beside the aux 12 volt outlet, under the radio or cd player.

1-) One 3.5 is DOHC the later one is SOHC. The Sohc has more grunt in low RPM.

I think, they are a pretty strong engine, my Paj has 326.000km I only change valve seals once at 306.000km, I change oil and filter every 3500km and runs really well

You should verify fuel pump presure. Change the gas filter (the one inside the tank)
When the paj is losing power, the check engine light turn on??? If not, is the fuel pump....

My is a montero 98, 3.0lt 12valve, has done 314.667 km still going strong, not a smoker, I had never touch valve seals, still on original cluth and water pump. Just alot of oil changes, replace all fluids every 35.000km, 4 timing belt .......

I change the oil and filter every 3000 - 3500 Km, Oil in Venezuela is very cheap. I have 310.000 km and I have never change nothing, not even the valve seals and water pump. This is the best truck I had. With proper service is indestrucctible, rock solid.

You can change the valve stem seals without taking the heads out, you need a special valve spring compressor... you have to go to a specific store to buy that..... its a tool that... I don't how to describe it, you have to ask for spring compressor for muti ...

Don't buy the Ranchos.... it's american junk!!!!!!!!! I had one set a few years ago.... it was terrible, it was like no suspension at all, even the smallest cracks was going inside the cabin....... They were 5000's
For me I think the KYB mono max or KYB gas adjust and OME are the best shocks ...

Give him a complete tune up..... clean injectors, replace spark plugs, change both fuel filter (the one inside the tank and the normal one) change the air filter and clean the throll body with carb cleaner, take out the IAC only, and clean it..... you will get a much more responsive engine, cleaner ...

Those gearbox are a really good units, my Montero has 310.000 km on the clock without any problem. I change the gear oil every 35.000 km and I have used 80W90 GL5 Shell since new, also I check the oil every 10.000 km looking for water
