The 80 series one is about 30mm larger in diameter and 15mm deeper in comparrison to mine which is a "93 sr5 diesel ln 111. I've got no idea if all models need the spacer plate but I tried mine without it at first and everything bolted up o.k but the brake pedal was too high.

Cheers, Dipmaker.

I think the hole for the small guard indicator may be a slightly different shape and position as well.

I've since adjusted the brake pedal up a bit and the problem is no where near as bad as it was. Thanks for all the suggestions I may use some in the future if I have to.

What motor are you running?
My Commodore V6 keeps up the vacuum easy.
Just the standard old 2.8 diesel.

This sounds interesting, my hilux brakes are TERRIBLE, can you elaborate a bit on this upgrade please? what do you need, how do you install it etc? Cheers It was a very easy conversion , basically just replaced the original brake booster from my '93 sr5 hilux with one from an 80 series landcruiser ...

Well just finished installing the 80 series booster and the difference in braking is incredible, thanks for the info and also to Lukes 4x4 of LLandilo for supplying the spacer. The only problem I have now is if I hit the brakes twice very quickly I run out of vacuum, anybody else had the same problem?

If you have raised the rear of the vehicle at all the proportioning valve may need adjusting, that is the rod that goes from the chassis to the diff.

I think you will find it will be better to run a second set of cheap tyres and rims if you use it as a daily driver, this will save both fuel and stop a lot of wear on the MTZ's. I put mine on last year and did a trip from Brisbane to Cape York and back and admittedly I was carrying a lot more ...

Yeah I totally agree to go the 31's, the 33's will definetly rub big time, will rip your mud flaps off and cause heaps of problems, been there, done that. I've now got 31 MTZ's on my IFS and they are a great tyre offroad but will knock your performance and economy around on the bitumen.

I gave it a go and advanced the timing mark about three mm but all it did was rattle more and blow huge amounts of black smoke so have put it back to where it was.

Thanks for the info fella's, what I was mainly trying to find out was if damage could be done by advancing it a little.
I have been told but don't know if it is true that Toyota intentionally retarted the injection pump timing on these motors to make them quieter but lost efficiency by doing so.

Hilux injector timing

Can anybody please tell me how far is the optimum for advancing the injector timing on a 2.8 hilux? i.e how far should the aligning marks be moved.
Cheers, Steve.

Yeah he did give it heaps trying to get out of the mud. No water got into the cab, it was thick sticky mud that he was stuck in and it took a huge effort to snatch him out so he may have damaged the torque converter. there is a mechanic having a look at it today so I will pass on any info received ...

No the oil seems fine and the car has plenty of power, heaps of revs and sometimes will creep forward a couple of inches and just gives up again, just like when a manual has a slipping clutch.

80 series Auto

After recovering my son's 80series gxl auto out of the mud last night he found that he had very little forward drive and then it gave up completely, but had plenty of drive in reverse. Checked the auto transmission fluid and that was o.k. Anybody else had simillar problems? or any advice would be ...
