my hungy (100 series 4.5 petty auto) gets anywhere from 20 to 30 litres per hundred depending on use..... so yes thirsty but power on tap makes up for that..

hmmm.... i have snatched a bogged fourby ( forerunner ) by the towbar that was stuck in sand mud and was mildy surprised when the towbar itself ( not mounting bolts or welds , the 2 inch round pipe part) snapped and bent hideously... after wards i noted that some keen bloke had drilled and screwed ...

the plug is only a few bucks even from the toyota dealer so go it with a hammer and chisel to get it undone and then you will know for sure if it is filled to the correct amount...

update.... main bearing removed... bit thinner than it used to be... a nice bluey colour and a little chewed out... methinks maybe new rod and bearings or maybe just crank grind and bearings.... if i had a photobucket thingy i would post pics but i dont... does anyone else think this sounds like oil ...

i have done this before and is pretty easy...just take it easy on the press because it is only alloy that you pushing in/out of..

missus drove the shite box fore runner to work the other morning and left it on the side of the road coz it slowed down a little then commenced a horrid knocking noise...( i then drove it home... nasty knock) dropped sump...bits of metal and glittery oil... lifted head.... can clearly see the 0.05 ...

that is the thing... i aintdoubting its ability just yet but i am unsure of many of the finer points of an auto.... and i know that manualing an electronic auto can be bad... as far as i know selecting a low gear and changing up is fine but downchanging can be bad...true?

turns out ney key from yota dealer is 75 bucks and remote is 32 bucks plus 30 or 40 to programme....

150 for both plus programming form key cutter...

who would a thunk that the dealer would be cheaper....

by the way.... i had a home made spare carrier on one of my old hiluxes and the gussetting right behind the tyre itself is a good place to drill a hole to attach a chain to keep your wheel secure.... just a thought...
