Sedimenter

What's wrong with just drilling out the broken plug and filliing the hole with epoxy? It is better to remove the whole bowl each time and properly clean it anyway. You can also put another CAV filter on the same fitting if you change the inlet and outlet hoses around. You need to protect the glass ...

They're the fixed ones alright.

It's not critical but free wheeling hubs do save petrol and wear. Depends on the cost as to whether it is worth it for you.

There is heaps said on the topic, just google "free wheeling hubs".

Actually this flexible engine mount system is a design feature of sportracks - it allows driveline articulation to get over hills, etc. Just park the vehicle facing downhill slightly and the engine will be level. Seriously though, most engines do look like they slope slightly rearward. The best way ...

Rocky rear recovery point

What do people use as a rear recovery point for their rocky?

I have a towbar tongue bolted on to the rear 4 bolt plate. I presume that was standard. Do people just replace the towball with a shackle? Or do people have an aftermarket hook?

Well done on finding a helpful mechanic who wants to save you money and time.

Usually the hill method shows the problem - you could try a longer downhill but the mechanic should know what he is talking about.

The sooty plugs are consistent with rich and oily running Sometimes they might also show some oily residue as well, depends on the heat.

Give the hill thing a go. If your missus loves you, she will be happy to drive behind you.

Have you checked the valve stem seals? Drive down a steep hill with the engine overrunning (ie no throttle). Then at the bottom hit the throttle to go up the next hill. If you get a blue cloud behind you, it will be the valve seals. This won't show up on compression tests as the valve is seating ok ...

It's going crazy. People must have too much money burining a hole in their pocket. On the other side, you have heaps of vendors selling things at or near retail anyway. Those guages are more expensive than the ones you find at supercheap. You should pick up one of the mechanical type (oil line) for $20. This is just for a reading and once the problem is identified, you can go back to the light. I would get one of these cheapos from supercheap (or repco or autoone ...

I have done on other cars. Try driving along at 90 until the noise appears and press gently outwards against the suspect areas to see if it gets worse. You can usually bend the window frames a little by hand to get better sealing but not too much. Can't help with the engine as I have an old petrol ...

This happened with a buggered oil pump I had and the real problem is that the threshold for the light is really quite low and even at revs, the pressure might be just enough to make the light go out but not really enough to be any good for the engine. You can try another sender but given the light ...

you can also try bending the window frame towards the car a bit at the front. Do this with the WINDOW WOUND DOWN.

Also check the tension on the sunroof clamps and see if you can bend something a bit there.

turn the radio up or buy mud tyres Seriously though, they are no limo but I would try the obvious and look at the window and sunroof rubbers, etc to see if they are shrunken or loose (or missing). What is happening is that at speed, the low pressure zones outside the windows and sunfoof are sucking ...

No not rough, just very stiff. Should break in in the next year or so. They are probably a good thing for a swaying car like the rocky but it does knock the cd player around though.

A diesel has better torque and better manners offroad.

Each has a place but I wouldn't say either is crappy.
