Re: Mixing oils

You could always flush the pump with a few quick squirts of the next oil to eliminate the majority of contamination if you are still worried.

Re: Condensation in Toolboxes

Condensation in a frost is never an issue. The air is very dry in frost conditions. In the rain, you're probably worried about leaks rather than condensation. There's no need for a fan in either situation. Just make sure the lid doesn't seal completely and make sure the lowest point has a drain. I ...

Re: Condensation in Toolboxes

I understand how condensation works (it is a part of my job), and I realise that the ventilation and drain method will work to some extent. However, I think there are two issues with this as a solution (1) overengineering (they are toolboxes, not the millenium falcon) and (2) how do you propose that ...

Re: Condensation in Toolboxes

But. Pooled water will keep the humidity up. Possibly causing rust. Exactly! You will find that most of the damage is caused by the hu,idity, rather than pooling of water. A false floor may help if the sweating is so bad that pooling occurs, but I highly doubt you would get that much condensation ...

Re: Condensation in Toolboxes

You might feel tempted to use other dessicants to adsorb moisture, such as sodium hydroxide or calcium chloride. However, steer clear of both of these as they make our stainless steel laboratory benchtops rust - imagine what they would do to your toolboxes. The suggestion to use silica get is a ...

Re: Engine swap compliance VIC

I don't see the problem? What is the new capacity of the engine? Nobody will know the engine has been bored if you don't tell them, and records of the engine number should indicate it is still a 308ci. Even so, vicroads laws do allow for certain modifications without an engineers certificate - not ...

G'day all, SITUATION: 1. I am particularly after the advice of someone in Victoria who has been through the same/similar circumtance as I am about to describe. I have a Holden WB (yeah I know it isn't a 4X4, but my Nissan is) that used to be a 6 cylinder, but I have now converted it to a 308 ...

Re: 355 V8 Cooling options (yes I searched)

I cannot see why a normal clutch fan or flex fan cannot be used because of the heads?? I mean even the efi 304's run clutch fans. Anyway. If you remove the thermostat completely that could be causing the water to flow too fast and not cool down. You should at least put the housing back in with the ...

Re: 355 V8 Cooling options (yes I searched)

I just spoke to the mechanic that built it and the head conversion does not allow for the original style fan to be run; only themos are to be used according to him.

I will chuck the thermostat back in though.

Cheers,
GFN

Re: 355 V8 Cooling options (yes I searched)

Whats the engine tune and timing like? The engine tune and timing was done with the rebuld about 1500 km ago. I can't say I have noticed any difference since then. GINGERBREADMAN: You may have just struck the answer to the question. The HX radiator was not modified for the WB, the mounts were. In ...

Re: 355 V8 Cooling options (yes I searched)

STRUTH: 1. sadly the engine is in my 1982 WB and not my 4x4. GINGERBREADMAN: 1. I have removed the thermostat from it for the moment to eliminate it as variable. I also tested this in water with a laboratory grade thermometer, and the result is a perfectly functioning thermostat designed to open at ...

Morning all, EQUIPMENT: I have a Brocky black 308 V8 bored/stroked to 355. I run twin thermos on an HX V8 radiator. The engine runs on straight gas (VN heads). The thermos are mounted behind the radiator; i.e. they pull the air through the radiator, rather than push. SITUATION: 1. During the winter ...

Re: Pressurised LPG system

V8 PAtrol: Thanks a heap for that helpul list of information. I thought that was what a hydrostatic valve did, but my understanding was elementary and as it was the only thing related to both tanks, deduction seemed to point to it as the issue. I didn't even consider ambient temperature as a common ...

Re: Pressurised LPG system

Was it a hot day? I have had a similar problem once with my old Range Rover (twin tanks) and twice with my Pajero (single tank). Both vehicles had the tanks underneath. On each occasion, I was nearly empty. The ambient temperature was probably only about 30 Deg C, but I suspect that the blacktop ...

I will try taking a short drive later tonight to check the handbrake drum. I doubt it is a fuel line as we drove back with 'loner' control arm from Newcastle to Sydney at normal function.

Hopefully jsut the handbrake then.
