Re: High steer set up with a v6

just out of curiosity what did you do with the sump to clear the draglink? i made a custom one just interested to see what other people are doing. From memory, I had a 2" bodylift and lifted the motor along with it. The car had a Marks 4wd chassis mount on the passenger side which I had to cut off ...

Re: High steer set up with a v6

What radiator does it have?

I had a Hilux that was using a commodore radiator, when I put high steer on it I had to change back to a Hilux radiator. I had no issues with the Hilux radiator, it sits in between the chassis rails so shouldn't hit the steering box, but the commodore one was too wide.

Re: Dual case queeries

The rear case is shifted the same as a standard Hilux case, so the standard shifter is all you need. It's personal preference if you want twin sticks. The front is shifted independently, so you can put it in low while the rear is in any position. Yes, you can use low in the front and 4wd-high in the ...

Is there any particular reason why you want twin sticks? If you put the front case in low you'll have 2wd low anyway.

Re: Dual case queeries

It's been a long time since I did this, but the front case will be whatever suits your gearbox, so if it's currently forward shift, then use that.

It's the rear case that needs to be top shift.

Re: Explain dual cases to me

When I was looking into I found duals to be the more expensive option (excluding cost of extra Tcase because I already have one) I'd agree with that. Definitely more expensive and complicated to install duals. Once you've got the dual adapter and t-case, modifying drive shafts will be the main ...

Re: Explain dual cases to me

I've had dual cases and one of the main benefits is you get normal low for cruising around bush tracks, then get to something real hard you can shift into low-low and have the benefit of crawler gears. I wouldn't worry about the all the gear combinations, use low-low in real hard stuff, then shift ...

I've used the Marks kit with an R150, but the original chain drive case I had was a top shift, so I used a top shift gear drive t-case. The intermediate housing on my R150 only has a cup for the gearbox selector, I assumed the R151 was the same, but obviously not. One other tip I'll add, check the ...

Worst case, if you want a stronger gearbox, Marks heavy duty unit is $2650, and allows you to keep your gear driven transfer. ChevTorque in WA should offer something similar. Basically the same as R150/R151, but different ratios. R150/R151 will require different bellhousing (Marks might offer an ...

Is a Prado diff really stronger than a Hilux? I don't know, that's why I ask, but I thought they were about the same strength. If that's the case, swapping in a Prado axle might be a nice way to get a bit more strength, extra width and disc brakes. i got standard housings and prado centres in my ...

Which box would suit a 1UZ conversion best on a Hilux that is running 4.8's in the diffs, dual transfers and 36" pedes. The R151 or R150. I know it's only the ratio's that are different so just want to know which one suits the V8 better with this set up. Thanks I've got a R150 with commo V6, 4.3s ...

I've got a VP motor, R150f 5 speed, 4.3 diffs and 35" tyres in my Hilux. I don't keep a close eye on economy, but I think 15L/100km would be it's best, and more typically it's around 17L/100km. Luckily I only drive about 8km to work, so it doesn't worry me too much, and it goes a lot better than the ...

There is someone on this board who's done the swap, but can't remember who. A couple of things to consider. The gearbox and t-case are different with the 3.0L TD so you'll need to get them too. You can use your existing t-case if you buy an adapter. The only reason you'd do this is if you wanted to ...

I've got duals in my Hilux. For me the main benefit of duals is I can cruise along most tracks in normal low range, and still get up to a reasonable speed. I think you'll be struggling to clear the sump. When I fitted hi steer to mine I didn't have enough clearance under the sump. Options were bodylift and engine lift, or reverse sump.

I think cross over will give you the same problem.
