MTRs for me. Speak to the guys who spend their weekends in the Vic High Country, where mud means a long claggy hill climb, not just a bog hole, and they'll soon tell you what BFGs are like in the mud - most say they're great on all surfaces except mud, where most other muddies will out perform them ...

Good luck - they're rare as hen's teeth.

Dry either Defence surplus / disposals yards, otherwise you'll probably need to find an importer. I'd be spending a fair bit of time searching the web.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really can't think of a situation where insurance coverage would be an issue, since it's your own car. If you are injured in an accident you're going to be covered by the compulsory injury insurance component of your ...

According to Vehicle Standards Information 22 (vic roads); Summary of the Australian Design Rules; Technical Information T1/12: "If an airbag system is standard equipment on a particular vehicle model or variant it must be present, complete and apparently operational. For a vehicle required to meet ...

I have read previously that it is illeagal to fit a non-airbag bar to an airbag equiped vehicle. Not illegal - ARB have told me there isn't an ADR on bullbars, but there are Australian Standards. The AS apparently states that airbag approved bars must be tested to prove their compatibility. So ...

I had thought about the custom option, but I'm concerned about loosing my ability to get insurance if I remove the airbags and add custom barwork (there is an Australian Standard on bull bars, so if front barwork doesn't comply the insurance companies may still try to leave you high and dry after an ...

Which winch bar???

I need to stick a new airbag compatible winch bar onto a 94 Discovery (300TDi), to take a Brawn 9500Lb low mount winch. The obvious question is TJM or ARB -what are the pros and cons? Being an airbag compatible bar you aren't supposed to snatch off it - can you fit chassis mounted recovery points ...

Try having a look at the chart on this link for required mods to fit various tyre sizes: m I fitted 235/85/16s (approx 32" nominal diameter), with only ~60mm spring lift. Had to cut the rear edge of the rear guards and roll the rest of the inner lip of the rear guards (bash it flat against the ...

I thought the LWB was closer to 2500kg too. Cherokee - monocoque hull construction, there are plenty around that are cracking around the top and bottom of the B pillars due to too much offroad use. Jeep fans may still swear by them, but I for one wouldn't like to consider too much offroad unless it ...

4WD Monthly had them both in the AT tyre comparo they did a year or two ago. Both rated almost identically for their performance on all surfaces tested. From memory I thought the Silverstones only had a 2 ply sidewall compared to the BFGs 3 ply.

Looks good, but is it built to comply with all the relevant ADRs etc? That's why a lot of fabrications shops won't touch front bar work.

4WD Monthly Magazine did a good article about 2 - 3 years ago on buying used Discoverys - what to look out for etc. Might be worth calling them and seeing if you can get a copy of it. I have heard people claim that from price point of view TDi vs V8, about 20,000km / year is the break even point. Ie ...

Try your local transport authority. Vic Roads told me last year that width must be within plus or minus 15mm of the largest / smallest specified by the manufacturer for that vehicle, and diameter plus or minus either 25 or 30mm (can't remember which one).
