I got a nice surprice when I started mating together the Volvo auto-tranny and the Bronco ll t-case: Both happen to be manufactured by AISIN and the transmission output shaft fits the t-case input sleeve!
That makes the whole combo much shorter and the adapter will be ...

That hose is ONLY for cold weather operation. There should be a lever where the hose connects to the air-filter intake, marked hot/cold or summer/winter which closes off that hose when set on "hot".
In hot climates it might even be used to up performance slightly by disconnecting it from the exhaust ...

Too bad we´re so far apart Steve, otherwise I could get you a LHD box and you could get me a RHD one :)
I´ll check out the Vitara box, there´s plenty of them around in Iceland.
I don´t need to worry about "stock looking"; my Zook will be so far from stock it won´t fool anyone. But of course, a pro ...

Thank you guys.
Now I have something to work with.
I take it that the RHD (UK) 4Runner would have the steering box mounted on the outside of the frame rail, thereby meeting my requirements for inside mounting on the left side?

Ok.
Now I´ve got the front axle ready for installation as well, apart from the brake lines and hoses.
I ended up swapping my LJ70 axle housing for a Hilux one, but I´m keeping the high-pinion diff centre and the behind-the-axle tie rod. In the bargain I got an LSD for the front and a spare 4.56 ring ...

Unfortunately it´s not feasible to order a relatively heavy object like a steering box all the way from Oz to Iceland where I´m doing the buildup.

I should have said that my rig has the steering on the left side, so in effect I could use a steering box that sits outside the frame rail with right hand steering. But I guess that most car manufacturers build different boxes for left and right hand steering and parts that are specifically ...

Steering box help
Hi you guys!
My I-Zook project is coming along slowly but surely.
I´ve run into a potential problem with the steering box; I had planned to use the one I got from the LJ70 ´Cruiser but that box mounts to the outside of the frame rail and with my Hilux front axle I will need to mount my springs ...

If the case or body of the starter is of a different diameter I doubt that it can be used. The rotor and body of an electric motor must match exactly!
The way I hear it, Mitsubishi makes most electrical components for japanese cars, so its no great wonder that some swapping can be done, but there ...

I laid the same info out on a swedish Zook forum and one of the guys there said that there were two kinds of starters in the SJ´s; the other one probably being the same as the Swift starter, which as far as I could see when compairing in the shelves at the wreckers, had a narrower body.

Mitsubishi Colt starter for the I-Zook
The starter in the I-Zook, ´86 413w, gave up on me, and a reserve was nowhere to be found within the time limits I had to fix it.
I did some scrounging among the shelves at my used-parts dealer and found a starter from a Mitsubishi Colt ´89 that looked, and was, exactly the same, apart from the ...

This is neat!
If I were to use a grille like this I´d wire up the outer lamps to work as normal headlights, with alternately low or high beam, and on the inners I´d wire high and low together and use them as extra lights. I´ve done it with some jury rigged extra lights and they were very effective ...

You´re right Pete, and if I was going to build the I-Zook to be used in Iceland I would follow the advice of by friends over there and go for 38´s: "You´ll end up with them anyway, better build for them from the start". They are, understandably, stuck with thinking "snow-wheeling" where you need ...

Lower Low in a 413?
Do you guys know about anyone who makes a lower gearing kit for the 413 t-case in the 3:1 - 4:1 range? I´m not looking for any rock-crawling ability and I´d rather not lower the high range. I´d just like a bigger gearing step down to the low, something like 2 or 2.5 times the high gear reduction ...

Instead of fixing the problem, I went around it; I installed a Manual choke kit. Maybe not the best fix there is but it works and in any case I´ll be changing engines soon, so I took the easy route. Had a bit of a problem though finding a ...

Project I-Zook
At last I´ve bought my own Zook! :D :D :D
A 413W ´86, bone stock, with a soft-top going all the way back.
I paid what equals 1.340 Aussie bucks for it: 8.000.- Swedish kronas.
I´m going to sell the soft-top (it´s almost new) and make this into a pure pick-up, or utility as you Aussies say ...
