I got a nice surprice when I started mating together the Volvo auto-tranny and the Bronco ll t-case: Both happen to be manufactured by AISIN and the transmission output shaft fits the t-case input sleeve!

That makes the whole combo much shorter and the adapter will be ...

A vacuum cylinder! Gee, I never saw anything so advanced!
Seriously though, thats just an autamatic control over hot/cold air into the air-filter. No doubt to save fuel and if that control unit is left intact, my tip about feeding cold air into the HOT air hose would be counterproductive.

That hose is ONLY for cold weather operation. There should be a lever where the hose connects to the air-filter intake, marked hot/cold or summer/winter which closes off that hose when set on "hot".
In hot climates it might even be used to up performance slightly by disconnecting it from the exhaust ...

Too bad we´re so far apart Steve, otherwise I could get you a LHD box and you could get me a RHD one :)
I´ll check out the Vitara box, there´s plenty of them around in Iceland.
I don´t need to worry about "stock looking"; my Zook will be so far from stock it won´t fool anyone. But of course, a pro ...

Thank you guys.
Now I have something to work with.
I take it that the RHD (UK) 4Runner would have the steering box mounted on the outside of the frame rail, thereby meeting my requirements for inside mounting on the left side?
Plenty of LHD 4Runners in Iceland and Celicas, Crowns and Cressidas were ...

Thanks. I don´t know about kicking ass, but if everything that´s whirling around in my head gets done to the Zook, it should perform quite well.

I think I was very lucky when I found this particular Zook: No deep rust anywhere except in the floor of the bed; that is badly rusted. Lots of surface ...

Ok.
Now I´ve got the front axle ready for installation as well, apart from the brake lines and hoses.
I ended up swapping my LJ70 axle housing for a Hilux one, but I´m keeping the high-pinion diff centre and the behind-the-axle tie rod. In the bargain I got an LSD for the front and a spare 4.56 ring ...

Unfortunately it´s not feasible to order a relatively heavy object like a steering box all the way from Oz to Iceland where I´m doing the buildup.

I need to find something that comes from a common, left hand drive japanese or european car = CHEAP! This is, after all, a low budget project.

Maybe I ...

Steering box help

Hi you guys!
My I-Zook project is coming along slowly but surely.
I´ve run into a potential problem with the steering box; I had planned to use the one I got from the LJ70 ´Cruiser but that box mounts to the outside of the frame rail and with my Hilux front axle I will need to mount my springs ...

Cj is right.
I might add that as a rule of thumb, for at least 4-1 headers, for low end torque you pick headers with long, narrow tubes and for max, top end sceaming hp you choose short, wide pipes.
This is just basics, like they said: It´s an art, some magic even and in an engine everything is ...

If the case or body of the starter is of a different diameter I doubt that it can be used. The rotor and body of an electric motor must match exactly!

Mitsubishi Colt starter for the I-Zook

The starter in the I-Zook, ´86 413w, gave up on me, and a reserve was nowhere to be found within the time limits I had to fix it.

If I were to use a grille like this I´d wire up the outer lamps to work as normal headlights, with alternately low or high beam, and on the inners I´d wire high and low together and use them as extra lights. I´ve done it with some jury rigged extra lights and they were very effective ...

Do you guys know about anyone who makes a lower gearing kit for the 413 t-case in the 3:1 - 4:1 range? I´m not looking for any rock-crawling ability and I´d rather not lower the high range. I´d just like a bigger gearing step down to the low, something like 2 or 2.5 times the high gear reduction ...

Yes, a softtop isn´t the "hottest" thing to have up here where it gets down to +25 degrees centigrade BELOW zero in the winter, specially with an ineffective heater as in the zook. I really hope the ingoing Volvo engine will run a bit hotter than the little zook spinner.
