Struth, SAS with a 60 front has been done on a Surf by Woodbutcher few years ago now.
He did have a few clearance issues to work out, but fitted. Would expect it to be a bit easier on a factory beam axle chassis.

Re: Hilux diff upgrade cruiser diffs or Hilux wide track
Early 75 series has 9.5" centres F&R. Late 75 series has 8" HP centre from factory same as 80 series using RD132. Having the transfer output centred & pumpkin off centre is not a problem, as long as the pinion flange is the same angle as the output flange. 60 series rear (1465mm) is near as dammit ...

I know from experience the toyo coolant is best in toyo's but no experience with it in other engines.
If others have done it and is better, I see no reason not to give it a go.

Re: toyota coolant in 304 v8 is it good
Personally, I would go with the Holden coolant for the same reason I used Toyo coolant with the Toyo engine .... not going harm/cause a problem in the cooling system.

Re: Dana 300 v Lt230
If you can get the D300 cheap (I paid $500 for mine several years ago) and are not generally easy to find, then add the low gear set, upgraded input & outputs you do end up cheaper than an atlas but not by a huge amount especially if you pay someone else to do it. Freight from US was the biggest ...

Re: 2.8 diesel 4 runner overheating issues
One thing I did try was running the coolant hoses from turbo through a trans cooler before going back into the main system.
Worked ok for temp spikes from hard working turbo, but keeping trans cool was a higher priority for me with limited space to put 2 coolers.

Re: 2.8 diesel 4 runner overheating issues
Brad, I'm guessing your using the 5LE fan and have put new viscous fliud in the fan hub ?
You can also adjust the fan hub (while it's open) to start locking up earlier if you want it to.
Using higher CST grade fliud will make it lockup more too.

Re: HiLux diffs vs Patrol diffs strength?
Without the hub gears, the longs won't be warranty covered as when the gear breaks it stufs the spline on the CV. Next weakest link is the sliding gear in the FWH, but is quick and easy to swap on a spare FWH hub on the track. Depends how many times you want to buy the std C&P sets before you get ...

Mine was around $400 from memory for engine/driveline conversion, 4Runner fuel tank, etc. (convert from diesel) using factory parts where ever possible. Re: 80`series steering box on a 4runner
I am using an 80 series pittman arm on an IFS steering box moved as far FORWARD as possible and works, but diff is only 30mm further forward.
5" forward, you may be better off with full hydro steering unless it's supposed to be road legal of course.

Agree with want33's, why do you need the 80 steering box ? More rotational movement or longer pittman arm ?

205/75 R15 are 27" diameter.
BJ spacers are not legal AFAIK, unless you can get an engineer to sign off on them.
Body Lift (Cab lift) is legal, check with your relevant authority for maximin amount (usually 50mm) and if approval is required (may not be required if no suspension lift).

Re: twin sticks: how do they work
Dana 300's are thin on the ground, unless you know someone with (a good) one. You could pay anywhere from $500-$1000, but then may need a rebuild kit, adaptor, clocking ring, and a twin stick kit. Then add yokes/tailshaft mods etc, you are better off to go an Atlas for a few $ more, which will be ...
