Re: GU buying advice
Only ST and Ti models have 7 seats, and I'm not 100% sure that the DX models come with petrols, so you maybe limited to those variants. Having owned a 1998 4.5l GU ST, I can say that they're probably what you're after. They are sluggish, but for general beach work and around town duties, will suit p...

Re: 4.8 engine oil
Mine has used a little oil since I changed to 5W-30, got 165k km's. IMHO I think its too thin, but I ran 15W-50 which I thought was way too thick and made it run slightly rough. The manual does specify 10W-30, and 5W-30 for Europe/European conditions only. Can go as high as 20W-50 in hot conditions ...

Re: 100s SAS
...trying to get some feedback from someone who has actually done a SAS in a 100s. I dont think they can be done at all because of said chassis differences. The chassis's are alot skinnier on the IFS models compared to the live axle models and this in turn cause alot of strife trying to get decent ...

Re: 12ht
It will only hurt the turbo in the long run wont it? Read somewhere about someone running 20 pound in a 12ht with a different turbo setup. 14psi is the boost limit that Toyota set for the "overboost" light. As mentioned, its only a pressure switch, so its only telling you that the turbo i...

Re: What latch on spare wheel carrier?
I am nearly finished building my rear bar and spare wheel carrier, I was wondering what does everyone use to keep them latched on and also has anyone got an idea on how to latch the wheel back while the door is open so it won't hit me or the door if it is a little windy etc. I like Destaco Latches,...

Not sure if it has any relevance, but I work in the steel game, and once imported a batch of mild steel from china. One of clients specified that we do not give them components made from chinese steel, as it has a higher carbon content and therefore is somewhat weaker than stuff made by other countr...

I dont think you're allowed to have a rear-ward facing light that can be switched from the dash. Best having a switch at the back of the cab that operates the relay, as well as connected to the reverse switch in parallel. I have two small spotties hooked up to my reverse switch, then a little 24V fl...

Mine blows a little white/blue smoke until it warms up, then its pretty clean. I have a slight leak around my turbo, and still dont consume enough to top it up between changes. I have heard that if you're running high boost (15psi+) that blow-by increase and therefore so does oil consumption. Also b...

Re: bucket seats
Nice idea. Ive just put vt calais seats in the front of mine, with the idea of putting some kind of cooler or a small fridge if i can find one that size. Those commodore seats made it so much more comfy to drive. You got pics of how you mounted to floor and brackets. Cheers x2. I've been looking at...

Re: 80 series man vs auto
Hey all, When changing from an auto behind a 1FZFE to a manual, does the crossmember and tailshafts need to be changed? or are they the same. Thanks Steve Not 100% on 80's gear, but I do know that when doing a 60 series auto to manual conversion, the tailshafts and crossmembers from the manual are ...

Air Con Compressors - HJ61 Sahara
Howdy,
My A/C compressor just siezed on my HJ61 Import Sahara and I was wondering what the go is with finding a replacement seeing as the Imports run 24V electrics? Can off-the-shelf comps run off 24V?
Any input appreciated.
Cheers.

I've done mine myself (with a lot of help from a mate) and it has cost probably $800 in just steel and welding gear. So you look at labour on top of that and you're in for at least $3k I would think?
