I tested my speedo against a GPS and there was about 10km/h difference, so I guess my rpm figures were for 90-95km/h. It's a 78 with 4spd std diffs, bad_religion_au. Still fun to drive though.

My 2F pushes the FJ40 along at 100km/h no worries with 31's, revs around 2000rpm. Would like an extra gear though. Only problem is the bad aerodynamics causing lots of wind noise. Anyone fitted a truck wind foil to their bonnet? Make much of a difference?

I wonder if the pressure plate is stuffed.
Does it show any signs of slippage? How old would the clutch be?

Awesome, that's very good to know.

I'll probably go with the full swap and see how this new motor runs, if all is good then go for the blue slip. If there are problems then I'll use the best parts of both motors and rebuild whatever else.

Thanks!

Bugger, so I'll have to fix up all the other bits to get it passed a blue slip.

...Only just scraped through with a pink slip last time.

Same Engine Swap Legalities NSW?

I'm thinking about replacing a worn out 2F motor with a working 2F motor into an FJ40. Reason for replacing is because it's cheaper than reconditioning.

What is the process involved other than the mechanical side? Would I need to have a thorough inspection and notify the RTA? Or can I simply swap ...

I put a 1982 BJ40 Hard top/ambo doors and front doors onto my 1978 FJ40.
It's a work in progress.

For a faster way, remove your transmission cover from inside the vehicle and unbolt the gearstick top plate then pour the oil in. Provided that all the bolts come out easily, otherwise you'll be pumping for a good 15mins.

Just ordered some new seals. Gonna leave the bearings till they cause me trouble so I can get frustrated that I didn't do them this time around.

Hacked up an old leaf spring to modify my steering wheel puller and some new bolts and it worked brilliantly.

Separate Tansfer/Transmission FJ40

Anyone know how? I'm trying to replace some gaskets while i've got it out.
I've unbolted the 3 large bolts on the outside and the two which are hidden behind the power take off cover. It moves a little but not a lot.

Here's a link showing as far as I got.
