I did my rocky clutch and found it easier to pull the motor out (diesel). borrowed mate engine hoist and it only took about 1.5 to get the motor out by myself. my noise which sounded similar was the diff. just changed the oil 1 day while servicing the pig and the went away the whole time i thought my gearbox was on the way out.
when it was really the diff. still sux both cost heaps

yer the scat had discs.I helped my mate convert his old f50 to discs it was very easy just had to remove the hub and backing plate and fit the disc backing plate . didnt have to pull apart knuckle joint only took about 3 hrs and a couple a VBs. By the way the calipers and pads are same as early ...
