Wow, yours line up? The 40 I am rebuilding has parts off so many different era's of 40's I will be surprised if anything lines up.
I am similarly looking at making some rubber inserts though I wonder if the same issues will occur anyways

Re: front diff locker worth it?
If you keep an eye out for a second hand air locker that is installed in a diff centre then it is just a case of removing one centre, installing the other. Buying a new air locker or auto locker means either doing the work yourself or paying someone to install it which adds up pretty quickly. Second ...

New FJ Cruiser is $50k, new Turbo Diesel auto GXL Prado can be had for $60k, no idea why anyone would pay over $50k for a Rav or a FJ Cruiser.

lowrangeoffroad.com are pretty good, way cheaper than Aussie distributors.
I got Bilsteins a couple of years ago for my 80 series from Tyres and More at Strathpine, so you could try them. No idea on pricing though

Have you checked to see what would be required to get it blue plated in QLD - I'd be doubtful it will ever comply if you want to road register it

Yeah no worries, 60 centre will fit.
If you are looking for a centre, I have a couple I pulled from my parts vehicle located in Albany Creek. A carton of beer would see one gone if you are interested.

Also front and rear centres from 40 series and 60 series will fit fine. Note that with the 40 series most are fine spline 4.11 but some are 3.7 ratio and some may be course spline

As you want a daily driver this would be pretty good. The petty's with 37's might be awesome when at some kind of 4wd park, but really who needs that stuff for a DD and touring rig? My HZJ80R GXL with 2" lift, Bilsteins and 33's went everywhere. Chances are the highly modified vehicles have also ...

Re: Fj40 3.7 diffs
Had the same issue about a week ago, bought a complete diff housing with locker installed but the guy didn't know what ratio and is really hard to count teeth when it is all together. 4.11 is 37 teeth on crown wheel and 9 on pinion which makes the shaft spins 4.11 (37/9=4.11) times to make the ...

Put it in neutral, lift one wheel and mark the top of the wheel and the tail shaft at their current locations. Spin the wheel and watch both the tail shaft and wheel. Keep a count of how many times each of the marks comes to the top. When it gets to 37 on the tail shaft, take the number of turns of ...

If you do rebuild/replace the 1HZ and put the turbo back on get a decent quality EGT guage. This will give you a realistic view on what is going on in your engine and lets you adjust your driving style. You may find with the tune in your motor it runs cooler EGT's reving its tits off in 3rd gear up ...

the power steering pump in mine was whirring with revs, not with vehicle speed. Was worse in the cold mornings. There was a bit of fuid on the chassis rail from a leaking box that ran the fluid down. Lots of new fluid and the problem went away obviously the pump was more happy with some fluid in it ...

Re: Starter motor/solenoid help - 80 series
Next time it does it, give the starter a bit of a hit with a hammer, don't go crazy, just a firm tap or two. Then give her another try, if it turns over and starts there is a fair chance there is gunk in the starter stopping the brushes or whatever they call them from sliding. There is a rubber ...

Fusible Link On a HZJ80 there is a fusible link from the battery, and I assume the same on a 70 series with 1HZ. Check that as this can blow when glow plugs short out. Mine had actually been replaced with standard wire and it showed 12V at both sides (continuity), however it was feked and ...

I took the air locker from the rear of a BJ73 and put it into the rear of a HZJ80 about 4 years ago so the details are a bit sketchy. To use the 60 discs is pretty straigh forwar - you will need to swap over everything from the swivel hub out including the swivel hub (required to mount the caliper) from the 60 onto the 40 axle housing. It's a good opportunity to put a swivel hub kit and wheel bearings/seals etc through the car at ...

I've got a pair of 83 late model (tank under floor) on eBay at the moment for 99c - located in Albany Creek. I had a similar (looked the same, different brand name) eBay special EGT. It seemed to work fine, the 2 things that annoyed me was that it started at 300 degrees so often it just sat on the 300 low mark, I would rather it start at say 100 so I could see the EGT's moving at all temps. The second ...

While it is nice to have all those things listed on your incurance policy, every insurance policy I have ever seen also states that the vehicle must be in a legal roadworthy condition. That trumps any "extras" listed on the policy. Even if you have a 4" lift listed on the policy, when your car lands ...
