G'Day mate,

I have a GQ Patrol and it kept starting to overheat when low range 4x4ing.

I found out it was the fan clutch by running the engine as per normal driving and waiting until the heat built up and then turned the engine off and turned the fan and it was fairly loose while hot.

To fix it ...

Re: gq

was told the best way to check fan is to get the truck up to running temp then pull over, open bonnet and watch the fan when you turn engine off. if the fan is ok it should stop almost instantly with the eng. it should also be harder to turn by hand.
also is it idling at different temps with air ...

is this when cold? ie many hours after the vehicle has been driven
Well from cold, and driving around 20-30 mintues, and the coolant temp reaching 2nd line on the dash.

Well I tried hand spinning the fan, but as others have said that it should not spin freely, nor should it be unmovable. And hence my doubt it is the clutch.

The fan moves with resistence, around 2-3 blades move with flicking the fan.

Coolant temp rising when at idle

The temperature here in Dubai has started to rise, today's high is 38 degree, and in a couple of months, we will be seeing 45s on average, with night time temps of 35s. My coolant temperature never would go past 1/3 mark, the 2nd white line from the bottom, it used to stay at the 1st line in these ...

Is the axle housing definantly bent? When you say there is a leak from Knuckles, is it gear oil or grease? MAYBE the seal is not centered on the knuckle housing--check same amount of shims are under both bearing caps. When i had a bent axle housing on my GQ, it was almost impossible to remove the ...

Axle housing replacement options????

Well my GQ LWB's front axle housing is bent. Have replaced the seals twice, the leak was visible around the bottom of the knuckles within 5 weeks of new seals.

Anyhow the dealer has given me a quote for the replacement axle housing, which is AUD 2000.00. Now for that price I can do the following ...

I have a tb42E with less than 150,000 kms. Around a month ago when the weather was cooler, around 7-10 degrees C, I started using the heater at night. And I am not sure if this is related to it or not, but now on coldstart, and revving to around 2000-3000rpm there is a strange sound. Best I can ...

Roof mounted antenna

I am about to install a VHF/UHF radio, and want to use the best ground plane possible, that would mean just one location the centre of the roof. What I can't seem to figure out is getting access between the headliner and roof sheet metal safely without causing any damage. It's for a LWB GQ. The dome ...

If I do add the tank and max air, as it is the cheapest option, would I see a good difference in times to inflate the tyres?

Also I heard that there was an article in one the magazines for modding a max air with a fire extinguisher, anybody know where I can get to read that article online?

Max Air or A/C compressor for inflating 33" tyres

I have TB42E LWB GQ, and have a portable Max air compressor. As we deflate to about 10-12 psi for sand driving, and lower for recovery situations, the max air takes a little time to fill the 33" tyres back to 35 psi.

So I am not sure whether to get a scrapped A/C compressor and install that, or ...

Took the TB42E LWB GQ in to the dealer to sort out the front leak around the hub/swivel hubs. The rig has a 2" OME lift with 33" tyres. Not been jumped, just loads of dune driving. I had taken the GQ to another mechanic before in Jan 07, to repack the hubs for leak on the RHS only, and asked that ...

Coil Spacer and 2" lift?

I just installed 305/70/R16 (33"X12.5"x16") with 16x8.5 (stock offset) rims on a LWB GQ. The GQ had a 2" OME lift already. I was flexing the new tyres, and it seems to rub a little in the rear at full compression.

Also my front rear coils are clanging due to worn spacers, which are stock. So maybe ...
