On economy i had the 1FZ-FE 5 speed and did the auto conversion as well, when i did my engine conversion. fuel consumption went from 420km per tank (average 78ltrs per fill) to 450kms. consistently, city driving.

I can do a drive in drive out conversion, Using a brand new 6L for around the $20000 mark no worries. We Just did a 6L (2nd hand) into my mates GU with manual gearbox for around the $10000 mark, This was not including labour however.

Just need to know which parts to use and where to get them at ...

If you choose to use brand new parts then im sure the conversion will cost you heaps but there isnt any real reason to do so. Low K engines and gearboxes work fine. My VZ engine had 60k's on it. I personally bought 3 of the 4k engines from Holden for engine swaps in mates cars. Not sure if they had ...

Well I put a 6ltr in my 80 doing all the work myself & I spent every part of 20K doing it including the engineers
If some one was quoting $15k drive in drive out get it in writing as a fixed price cause I dont beleive it can be done

I got an engine ...

VN V8 reg worked fine no overheating no pingin etc

then in my VR commodore LS1 conv i used an ebay reg and set it to
48psi....it never seemed to run 100% correct on 58PSI....just wat i found anyway.

external setups can be quiet its just how u mount it all, lift pump is the loudest just gota mount ...

Marks have an adapter to suit the 4L60E and 4L80e, I got the adapter to suit the 4L60 it is well made, but you will have to modd the back of the Transmission sump around the accumulator to give the tailshaft enough clearance.

The new diesels from chev are just awesome they are called the DURAMAX 6.6 ltr nothing in common with the old 6.5 boat anchorthey have a lot of aluminium and are built strong in the right places

they are very powerful there is a guy in brisbane ...

Cons would be cost$$$ Brunswik Diesels price for a freshed 6.5ltr was 3G dearer than the crate LS3 I ended up getting.

One is with the clutch fan and one without, buy which one suits your application.

This is an interesting thread. I have put an LS3 into an 80 and the engineers biggest concern has been tyre size, suspension lift and GVM. The biggest size tyre he will engineer on an 80 is 285/75/16 with 2" suspension lift and standard rim offset. This is for Vic.

Some say you dont need to, but I would also look at replacing the rear brake cylinders to the ones used on disc models (drum/drum have different size rear wheel cylinders), plus using the apropriate proportioning valve.

This I believe is a must the duel rear cylinders of the drum brake setup ...

i personally run a 4l60e in my cruiser, is still fine, have just had shift pressures altered via ECU flash.
To get the 4l60 beefed up to 4l65e spec(better clutches and bands)
will only cost about an extra $900 whilst getting the shaft changed.

I would add a fair bit more coin if your upgrading ...

So you are saying that the easiest way to replace stuff if it breaks is to mate the LS1 to a Patrol auto with the adapter at this point.

I would run the LS1 auto which is the 4L60e, if you can get one get a 4L65E but be prepared to spend some money beefing it up. I would use the GM auto because getting another model auto to talk to the GM stuff is a huge headache.
