Damaged upper control arm

My 80 series has a 4" lift with adjustable upper control arms. Looking at the drivers side arm the other day I noticed the lock nut was loose and found that it wont tighten up. It looks like it been loose for a while and has let water and crud into the thread and has rusted out, so tightening the ...

Re: picture of my toughdog shock which let go

My oppinion is they are a low cost shock that is way overpriced and over rated but I really wouldn't complain about that failure

x2 on both the quality of TD shocks and the can't complain

My mechanic is of the same opinion (cheap stuff made in china).

He recons it would be a BAD IDEA to weld ...

1HDT air-con compressor

Howdy folks

Last week whilst out wheeling on a hot day, my air con compressor packed up. Truck is '91 1HDT powered GXL.

Happily enough, I have a spare one in the shed, and am about to swap it out. Trouble is, I have no idea what volume of oil to put in the replacement, or what weight of R134A ...

Re: How accurate are factory temp gauges?

Toyota temperature gauges are shit. On my TD 80 series I use a VDO EGT and Watchdog thingo for coolant temp. The factory gauge doesnt move at all between about 55 and 105 degrees coolant temp, then at 108 all of sudden it goes to the top (red). Designed flat spots are all well and good I guess, but ...

1HDT injector pump recon

The cold start mechanism on my injector pump (80 series 1HDT) came loose and has buggered the pump (and in turn the motor). The motor is ready to go again, but the pump needs rebuilding.

Who do people recommend in Sydney for pump rebuilds?

Re: Cheap Intercooler kits 80 series

I had a mate that fitted one of these http://www.dencodiesel.com/pdf/Fitting/intercooler/TOYOTA%20HDT%20INTERCOOLER%20KIT.pdf and he loved it, made a huge difference on the open road. The air to air look like they have about 2 metres of pipe work, I tend to think this would have to create massive ...

Re: Cheap Intercooler kits 80 series

I have a 600 x300 front mount on my 1HDT. I mocked it up with steel pipe and rubber bends first. Once I was happy with the pipe route I welded steel bends in.

Cost sweet FA and makes a hell of a difference.

Core cost a hundred bucks of ebay.

I am always wary of buying things off people who can't spell. If they haven't bothered to learn to spell, what else have they not bothered to do?

The kit looks ok though. A York type pump would probably be better, but harder to mount, as they are rather large. Sanden is probably a good compromise....

It is running a turbo and a big air-air FMIC at 11psi. I was toying with idea of a better exhaust manifold, but really, it goes well, and I don't wanna break it.

I use two stroke in my 80 mostly to control what I believe to be timing related smoke.

it does have the side benefits of a measurable increase in economy (probably also timing related) and smoother, quieter operation.

about 500ml when filling both tanks so a bit under 1:200.

- I have introduced 0 additional moving parts that are likely to fail
