The alternator needs 12V to excite it. These ford alternators will self excite when reved if that 12v is not there.

Check there is +12v on the Ignition wire at the alternator.
If there is there could be a fault with the regulator.

In the RF wold that would not meet australian standards. The radiation pattern would be crap, atleast half your tx power would be in the cab and radtiated through your head.

You would be no better off than using a portable in the cab.

I am very happy with the 3 day turn around that ARB did,

I spoke to the guy at the shop and he said there was no way i would get it fixed or replaced in a week.

All it took was 3 Days and it was replaced with a new one.

Lets just hope the new one i got does not break the bolt off this time.

It all depends on what antenna it is.
A Dipole will show a short circuit.
A ground independant antenna should show open circuit.

To test these you need to make sure there is no short between the inner and outer braid, Do a continuity check between ground and the braid and also a check between the ...

What you need to do is check the voltage with lights and other stuff on.

14.6 is not to high, if the battery was flat it would not be able to get anywhere near the 14.6v mark.

Check the voltage with different loads (lights on, Spots on etc) you will see quickly if the regulator is stuffed or not ...

My 1.0 had 3 wires at the alternator as it had an external regulator. I dont know why your 1.0 only has 2.

Do you have the external regulator located up under the passenger side??

Did the 1.3L alternator just plug straight in? Was is a round or a square plug?

i though the 1.3's had a round plug ...

After a short drive are you starting it straight away or waiting some time.

If straight away is an issue but if your waiting it may be another issue?
