I lost a friend and American lost a hero yesterday. (NC_Zuk)

Lost a true American hero and friend yesterday:

Master Sgt. Art Lilley
US Army 7th Special Forces
Fort Bragg, NC.

He leaves behind a wife and two children. Art was killed in Afganistan and I currently don't know all the details to his death.

Art was one of my best friends and I can truefully say ...

I tried running a traction bar with a stock rear end housing and ended up twisting the housing. A traction bar will stop axle wrap BUT they are really hard on a stock Samurai housing because the housings are so thin. I replaced my traction bar by adding a 6th leaf to my YJ springs. The only traction ...

For 29s I would use a SJ-410 case or upgrade the diffs to 4.30s or 4.62s. If you plan on bigger tires in the future go with the 4.16-1 minimum.

The 4.24-1 kit is for the Vitara/Sidekick/Tracker t-case. Not a Serria/Samurai case.

I have never broke one. My old 4.16-1 case has the regular one. My new case has the HD one. Trail Tough built my new 4.9-1 case. You will probably be OK using the stock one. :)

You can buy them (6.5s) direct from Trail-Gear at http://trail-gear.com/zuk-tcasegears.html

If your t-case is 1990 or newer it should have the HD front shaft in it already.

I can't give you a whole lot of metric specs but I can help you with tech information. I work at a Ford dealer in the parts department and I own a 2000 F-350 7.3 diesel. Most F-250s here from 1999-2003 models have a 8800 lb gross vehicle weight rating and gross combined capacity (truck and trailer ...

I am on 12.50x33s. I am running 5.38s and a 4.9-1 case. Its a little low for a daily driver. I believe you should spread the reduction between the axles and t-case. This eliminates overloading the U-joints. I have only broken one in two years of rock crawling.

Crawl ratio: 96.274-1, Hi-range ratio ...

If all else fails then knock the paint off the head of the screw and weld a nut to the top of the screw. Then use a wrench that fits the nut. I had to do that to get the screws off a couple of my hinges.

Here is a permanent fix:

http://lowrangeoffroad.com/samaxles.htm about half way down @ $109 US

You can also find it at http://www.trailtough.com who is the manufacturer.

The shipping will probably kill the decent price unless ya'll have a local dealer that sells Trail Tough parts.

I have Lockrites in both axles of my rig and I have yet to have a problem with them un-locking on a down hill. My biggest issue with the is the popping an clunking. If I had it to do again I would run a spool in the rear and a Lockrite up front.

Here in the US we use the 1979-1985 axles. The 84-85 housing are stronger than the earlier models. In 86 the pickup (Hilux) went IFS here. Here is a link at Zuwharrie.com that may help you also:

I use 80w140 because I have such a tall ratio. With the small pinion on a 5.38 gearset spinning so fast I thing that 75w90 would probably foam up. I use no additives.
