Nice pics.

I thought I'd add some of my own comments, because I've owned several 4wds, one of them being, (and still have), a CRV.

We use the CRV as a family shinny/softroader.

Thought I'd update and close this thread.
4th piston scuffed. Head only needing planeing, exhaust valve seals replacing.
Piston pin bearings on all but no.1 buggered.
I've lightly honed the bores.

I've decided to replace both top and bottom bearings, the rings and slap the buggered back together ...

Hi dow50r,
funny you should mention about the pistons/bores.
Went in this morning to pick up the head
This was the engine rebuilder and not the mechanic I spoke to over the phone.
He pretty much suggested he should look at the bore/pistons before I did anything else.

Over here in kiwiland we haven ...

Hi Dumbdunce,
thanks for your input.

Based upon another of your posts, I have purchased a top mounted air-water Intercooler off a Subaru Legacy.
I have also been considering LPG as I have picked up a unit very cheaply.

Just got the assessment of the head back from the mechanic.
Good news,
Head isn't cracked, just needs a slight surfacing. valves need a "clean-up" and collets replacing.
Phew, but I'll still replace the rings while I'm at it.
Toyoda built em tough, (unlike my old misty).

Thanks for both your responses.
Dow50r, I might run some chemical weld once I put it back together again.
I can't afford to buy another motor at this stage.

I pulled the head off today.
Man is the head heavy, (as compared to my old misty 2.5 diesel turbo!).

13bt ran without coolant

Hi, I was hoping if people could give me some suggestions as to my best approach after running my BJ73 dry.
Long story short: while off-roading I lost all coolant, but I wasn't the wiser as the temp gauge went only to 3/4. As it had been previously blocked full of rust and junk this was not unusual ...

Hey lay80n, thanks for your comments.
I agree that plain old water is a good coolant.

Actually, I wasn't pointing out that the antifreeze was making my radiator run cooler, rather that the lubricating properties of the antifreeze has helped the coolant flow better and hence better cooling ...

Hi RockyF70, as promised, I'd get back to you on my overheating and replacement of my water pump.

I replaced the water pump, (which was leaking slightly), and then ran it for a couple of days.
Though I noticed it still went pass half way mark on the temp gauge, before dropping slightly.

I then ...

Hi RockyF70,
just getting back to your question about overheating when driving hard in sand, (I'll leave the oil debate to better qualified people).

I found out the reason for my overheating is probably due to a worn water pump.
I'm replacing it with a 2nd unit in the weekend.
I'll get back to ...

I'm keen to see how you progress, as I have thought along these lines, but not pursued it, due mainly to delro dilemma.

Hi RockyF70,
I have the same deal,
it doesn't matter if it's highway or sand or mud, if I keep my revs at 3-4thousand for say 5-6 minutes, it'll overheat.
Worse when at lower speeds.
I've checked the themostat and coolant level. I Haven't checked between the aircon radiator and main radiator, so ...

5th Gear Woes

Hi, recently I went for a drink (84 blizzard), and ended up with about 30cm of water in the passenger side, (and about 10cm on driver's side). Was stuck for about 10 minutes before getting pulled out. Within that time, and only realised later, the cabin wasn't the only place the water got into.
In ...

After driving around for a week, and checking out the articulation, I noticed it didn't have much.

Cheap Leaf Spring alternative

Hi guys, I thought I'd share a little of what I did this weekend.
Maybe someone in the same financial constraints may benefit from it.

My Toyota Blizzard rear right 3rd leaf had snapped, (I bought it that way), and driving on uneven road surfaces would feel really dangerous if I was doing 100km/hr ...

Thanks for your reply.

My Blizzard is a 1986 2.5 Diesel turbo. disc brakes front and drums rear.

My first thing would be to swap the buggered springs and allow me to fit my larger AT tyres 31x10.5 and a set of SAT 7.60x16 onto it.
They're sagging really badly.

I would also like to fit a front ...
