Thanks for tip Doc

.....but read all of the post on "Posted: Wed Mar 21, 2007 8:51 am" and you'll see that I mentioned that a dial gauge was used to clarify the clearance........and for the record, there is a montental difference between exhaust leak noises and tappets noises.

DR Frankenstine:- "I've checked the tappet clearances with a dial gauge and they're 10 thou." There is some wear on the valve stems, but that is taken up by the rocker adjustment. 351ciofgrunt:- I know this is a tappet noise because I've used the hose and ear method. It is ticking clearly when the ...

Hi fellas. I've been chasing this tappet noise for a while now. I've adjusted the tappet clearance down to 10 thou which is less than half of the recommended clearance. The tappets are quiet at cold idle but when the revs are increased and the motor reaches operating temp, the noise is clear and ...

Hey guys.

I'm still chasing this ticking noise.

I've now been advised (by a head shop) that it's most likely the cam followers. Has anyone else come across this advice.

Cheers,
Dunc.

The recommended oil viscosity for the TB is about 10-30 (going by the book). However, the following is from penrite.com.au for HPR GAS 20-60. "The additives selected minimise nitration of the oil which can occur with the combustion of LPG. Nitration reduces the oil life and in extreme cases can ...

TB42 rocker shaft

This may have been covered in a previous post - but I can't find the relavant info. Tappet ticking. Is this usually caused by wear on; rocker shaft lifter camshaft or combination....... 280 ks - gas only - use 20-60 HPR GAS Penrite oil every 5-7ks - no oil consumption. The noise is more apparent ...

I've had this problem with my GAS only TB42. Carby is in good condition and the mixer has been rebuilt. The idle varies between 1000 and 600 and this is not related to eng temp. The linkages are tight and the return to idle spring works well.

Ideas ?? Gas flow not responsive enough ??

Thanks for the front 60 and rear 80 mm answer.

Left front (88) and right front (102) is what we have. Hardly a 50mm lift hey ??!! The left is noticeble lower than the right.

Rears are good though +55mm and even.

Thanks again,
Dunc.

If the best way to measure suspension lift is the distance from bump stop to axle - what distance is standard GQ ?? and I can only assume that a 2inch lift will have +2 inches on that measurement.........

I couldn't find this info in the bible.

Thanks,

rear coil spacers

After a modest spring lift of 2 inches in my SWB (using kings springs) the rear is a little lower that i had hoped, although the sills are level. The right rear hits the flare - 32 bfg muds. Is there any preference to brands of spacers with respect to price and compound? I only want about 15-20 mm ...

V8Patrol, thanks for the extensive reply.

Q: What is inolved in cleaning or rebuilding the converter of the Impco simplex system ?

The only problems I'm noticing are:
fluctuating idle and maybe a little lack of full power.

I have the flow control valve on the mixer 3/4 to rich.

Keep talking V8Patrol - I'm listening.

What's the deal with the converters?
I can easily see that the carby mixer is prone to wear and tear.

Please explain.

ps. I have Impco converter as well.

Hey Mav - nice XW. My car didn't have any air fitted - even though it's an xlt model. The complete a/c cost around $1200. I guess the sanden a/c compressors are 400-500. Mine is a little noisy when it engages. I'm waiting for it to get worse before I complain. Also re rocker gear - I've been told ...

I thought it might have been timing chain related. There is no performance loss and it's definately not the exhaust. Was hoping it wasn't cam / lifter related.

Thanks - I guess I'll just live with the ticking.

TB42 clicking noise - not tappets ??

Same as TD42 thread - single rattle / clicking with engine speed and when engine at operating temp - tappets adjusted correctly and in good condidtion. I'm hoping that it's related to the air compressor (new), power steering pump (new), water pump (new) or alternator. Maybe fuel pump (not is use as ...

Thanks for the info. I've gave the mixer an external clean with a solvent and I couldn't see any wax build up. It's booked in for a mixer rebuild and a tune. Hoping to get better than 4km/L. PS. apparently if you can't miss match converter and mixer brands (impco converter with gas research carb ...

Gas carby / mixer options

GQ carby gas - 270ks. I'm running dedicated gas (no fuel tank and electonic dizzy advance curve modified for 20 deg initial) so I don't need the original carby. It looks as if the Impco 300A unit is on the way out as the idle fluctuates between 800 - runs fine and 500 - runs a bit rough. I think it ...
