Re: Brake issues.
I'd have a close look at your front wheel bearing adjustment, and your rear brake adjustment. If ether of these are out it will produce similar faults to what your describing. Yep I'd check front bearings. If they are letting the wheel wobble then that pushes the pads back and the pumping brings ...

Re: 2RZ-E ticking sound
You can adjust a shim over bucket setup on these motors. It's a common setup on toyota motors. There's a special tool available to allow shim removal without having to remove the camshafts. Some who are even experienced and game just use two screwdrivers and a magnet to get them out. A lot of run of ...

Re: timing belt change
Loctite the crankshaft pulley bolt because they can work loose over time which will at least wreck the harmonic balancer and also wreck the crankshaft key way which is a very expensive repair. Getting that bolt undone can be a hassle as well as getting the harmonic balancer to slide off the crank ...

Agreed.
But the way I see it, the extra fuel use is an insurance premium against the inevitable $,000s you are up for with a turbo diesel when the turbo, fuel pump and injectors all crap themselves.

Re: How to tell if i have a gear or chain driven transfer
Rearmost cover of the transfer (where the output flange bolts to) will be circle - shaped for chain drive and oval shaped for gear drive. This will explain it http://www.marlincrawler.com/tech/transfercase/transfer-case-bible Although I'm pretty sure yours will be a gear drive which for the purpose ...

Re: hilux 2.8 oil leak
I had the same problem in my 2.8 4runner. I replaced the pressure relief valves and also had a new gasket put on the whole oil cooler filter assembly (steel one with grey sealant) but it still leaked so maybe there was a crack in the plate somewhere. Most likely the threads where the relief valves ...

Re: 2.8 valve clearance tool
It compresses the bucket so you can flick the shim out. It's a shit of a tool and easier to use a screwdriver, or 2 if you have someone to help you. Is that the one that looks like a tap reamer, slides onto the camshaft and then you wind a little narrow foot down from the top to push the shim ...

Re: 3L 2.8 diesel - injector pump replacement: HOW TO?
You would do this job on the ground, having it on a hoist would not help you much at all. You really should get a workshop manual so you know what you are in for. It is a normal timing belt job with the pump removal as the extra step. Steps you might have trouble on are getting the crankshaft pulley ...

Re: Need help - can I exchange timing belt, drumbrakes by my
While workshop manuals are great, they are no substitute for experience or someone standing by who knows what they're doing. Manuals can only give you a general idea on what the job entails but things can be very easily thrown off course, usually by a broken or frozen bolt. eg for a timing belt job ...

Re: Anyone know about 96' SR5 Luxes?
They're pretty much the same deal as the base model luxes to look at. But will be higher trim level (nicer seats) and a few other electrical goodies. Main difference mechanically will be ADD for the front end (auto disconnect diff) which means the front axle runs all the time and is vacuum operated ...

Re: More damn dumb ass noob brake problems. help me.
As said before there's no guarantee that a qualified mechanic would be able to sort out the problem, particularly as a conversion's been done. There would be heaps of shops that would never have seen a conversion like this. I got mine all replaced by a qualified mechanic, for the next week and a ...

The 225/75/16s aren't much bigger than the standard issue 205R16s (205/80/16) being only 9.5mm bigger on paper. The 235/85/16s are about a 32" and you can see them as standard issue on landrover defenders or energy company nissan patrol cab chassis trucks. The problem with the 32s is that your motor ...

If you're talking about the "5L" 3 ltr non - turbo then yes you will get high kms out of them if driven within their limits and serviced regularly and looked after. Re: timing belt gone on 2L-T is it ok?
THe only way you can simply replace a broken belt and be on your way again is if you're the luckiest man alive. When the timing goes out, the pistons can smash into the valves. But If the motor can still turn over freely, then that's a positive sign. I did read somewhere that someone with a 2L had a ...

Re: Hilux gearbox fitment?
The hilux should have had a gear drive transfer while the 96 model will have had a chain drive case. The adapter on the back of the gearbox that allows the transfer case to plug in are different for a chain case compared to a geared one, so no, the old hilux box won't be a bolt-in replacement for ...
