Re: GU Conversion options
surely the duramax is the better option for a v8 diesel?
the 6.5s are heavy, old tech. but they pull well.
if you dont mind going on unleaded look into the LS conversions. would be cheaper than the duramax.
Done right they would be reliable and reasonably economical.
could run duel fuel if you ...

having done a few converions on my own previous vehicles i would say go v8 if you can. lexus v8 or holden efi v8 before a commo v6.
ones i havent done but come highly reccomended are the 3RZ swap and the ls1s are starting to get done a bit more too.
if i was to do another i would seriously look into ...

there would be someone similar up your way i'd imagine.
Mate of mine is running 37" maxxis bravo 751s on his F truck to match the 750/16s on nthe rear (4WD so has to match ratios as well.)

yes it is hard work but well worth it.

my thought would be to fold the tank where possible as to minimse the welds. 2mm would be fine.
work it as a syphon system to the main tank or "T" the pick up line so it draws from both?
there are also valves and such available from places like brown davis that sort the switching out $$$$ though ...

Re: hilux front end , cut or cab ?
any chance of pics of the front end?
you would be suprised what will straighten....
there are a lot of spot welds to unpick the front.
if you would get good coin for the insurance then that may be the option...
recab is easy enough but takes time and it can be hard to find a suitable repalcement.
