drum brake removal
drum brake removal
how do i get the drum break off to clean inside??
1 Put the rear of the car on jack stands, with the front wheels chocked.
2 unbolt the rear wheel,
3 Make sure if the hand brake is on the diff (not on the T Case) that it isnt pulled up
4 may have to tap the drum as you pull it off.
5 put it back together same way
Its not a hard job but If your not confident in doing this at least get someone to help you that has some idea what they are doing.
good luck, I like seeing people have a go, even if they dont have any idea!
why are you wanting to clean them out.........been in the mud or something else?

you got the 4 bolts that hold the drum on the axle, that are on the inside of the wheel studs?lj wrote:i took the wheel off and undid the 4 bolts in the centre but the drum still didnt come off. is it just stuck on?
Check your hand brake is not pulled up?
Might need a tap with a hammer and some wiggling!

Probably you will need to put the rim & tyre back on.
Remove the 4 nuts and washers on the axle flange in the center and use the rim and tyre as a kind of slide hammer.
MAKE SURE NO ONE IS UNDER THE CAR and there is no chance of the car hurting someone if it comes off the stands.
