How to Remove Passenger Side Front Fender

Post by HotAe92 »

Hey Guys,

On a recent trip I snapped my electric aerial at the base (on my NK Paj), and so i have bought a rubber replacement to withstand the brutal blows of overgrown tracks.

In the meantime, my window washer has also managed to block itself (so that no water streams from the jets) so that also needs attending to.

Now, it may be a bit much to ask, and it may be a bit hard to answer also...but here i go.

I have attempted to dismantle the front fender, and got as far as 1 and a half dozen bolts and plastic clips, removing the plastic guard in the wheel arch and there was 'no go' from the fender. It got to the point where i could not see any more bolts that needed to be removed, but something was still holding it in.

Very frustrated after wasting a couple of hours acheiving nothing, i screwed all the bolts i had removed and bought a service manual off ebay - which happened to only include the body removal of NM pajero's onwards (which i dont think will help me too much).

I don't know exactly how you would answer my question, but pics would be a great help if you have them.

Cheers,
Jayden

You will probably find it is being held by body sealant. You need to be careful forcing/levering it off as the guards are quite flimsy and distort easily

I can't remember where all the fasteners are for the inner plastic lining, but you don't have to remove the (external) body fender. I replaced the whole electric aerial assembly in mine no problems. I think you only have to remove one plastic panel under the glovebox to access where the arial lead goes through the side of the body.

The washer plumbing is all easy to get at on the under side of the bonnet.

Hmm, interesting thought.

I thought about accessing it from underneath, but once i pulled the inner plastic guard assembly off, i dont think i was able to get to the antennae assembly. I will have a look at that again.

Thanks for your help Peter and J top.

You can deffinately get to the antenna by just removing the inner plastic guard cover. I accessed my antenna through there when i replaced the shaft.

Yes,

and the hardest part was trying to get the jolly electric plug out. What a mission.

Thanks to all who replied.

I managed to get to the electric aerial motor and it is now lying on the floor, replaced by a rubber variant. It was a bit of a bastard trying to get the new cable to follow the path of the existing one, but after a couple of scrapes and cuts, I managed to get there in the end. Pity my camera is broke, otherwise i would have taken pics for anyone else who is planning to attempt it in the future.

The only problem i have now is that i cut away some of the bottom of the plastic moulding which guides the aerial up through the panel, so it won't sit in there as it would have originally. Some decent auto silicon or something should do the trick but for now it is duct tape.

As for the window washers, i cleared most of the lines with compressed air, the drivers side works fine now, however the passenger side has either a large block in the spouts, or may not be getting enough pressure. I will suss it out more when i have a bit more time.

Cheers,
