Yes it will counterbalance built up mud on the rims. As stated it would depend on the amount of built up mud but if the big clumps were removed there would generally be enough MAGNUM in the tyre to provide a smooth ride home.

all tyres are hand made and hence have heavy and light spots. now the heavy and light spots may not be associated with the thin or outer most areas of the tyre.

for eg

A DAMAGED TYRE:

like say you get a bubble in the tyre. the bubble will stick out towards the centre of the tyre thus be the last place the beads will sit as the beads ewill move to the distance furthest away from the centre.

The bubble is the lightest part of the tyre (as far as balance is concerned as the material is now closer to the centre thus reducing the "weight" acting at the specific outer radius. how does the bubble attract the beads.!
The repair may cause a heavy spot in the tyre causing a vibration but when MAGNUM is present it’s free flowing characteristics allow the microbeads to move in the opposite direction off setting the effects of this heavy spot providing a vibration free ride. This will be the same for both side wall and tread repairs.

a perfectly balanced tyre may not have even thickness or distance from the centre (due to different SG's of the steel belts, nylon plys, rubber and the overlaps of each) would the tyre beads not flow to the section away from the centre thus upsetting what would have been good balance?
No. The MAGNUM microbeads will be evenly distributed throughout the inside of the tyre giving a vibration free ride.

how do you reuse it? hoover it out the tyre than collect it and reuse it - you can't tip stuff out of tyres??
Correct. Using a dustbuster is the easiest way to remove it.

bru21 wrote: why not / or are they used commercially by vehicle manufactures? (understandably the aftermarket makes a quid balancing tyres)
In America balancing compound is used by vehicle manufactures including Hummer. It is now also widely used by the US Military and trucking industry throughout the world.
bru21 wrote: tyre weights would cost far more to make than any beaded material. we buy beaded waxes etc for the same dollars as solid, chipped etc. most small beads are made by dropping the molten material from a chosen height into/onto various media depending on the material and the bead size. this is cheaper than stamping weights and pressing steel clips onto the lead and then balancing and installing the weights at the car factory / tyre supplier.
MAGNUM is not made from a single solid material. It is made from lots of different materials that keep it free flowing, dry, clump free & anti static. Taking that into consideration along with the once off installation process keeping your tyres balanced for their life makes this a more cost effective option.
bru21 wrote: I am as interested as anyone in such products and would like to hear what you think. I remember callibah engineering used to sell centramatic wheel weights - I often wondered how they worked on big tyres as the weight would have to be pretty big to affect the outer edges of a 38".

Lastly just a quick plug for Ryano - Fourbys does a brilliant balance job - I've had many sets done there. The 37 beadlocked bias claws he tickled drive like street tyre smooth! I'm sure a week in the obc will change that though!

MAGNUM will adjust even after a week long comp like the OBC, providing you with the same ride you had before the event.
