Can you/anyone plastic weld radiator header tanks???

Hey lads we have a leak in a header tank at the outlet neck can this be plastic welded,we need it fixed for this weekend (OZROCK rd 1) cheers.BTW its a jeep auto radiator.

hmm , you could do it ya self with a broad soldering iron, practise on some other plastic first as ther is a nack to it.

contact a radiator shop, you wouldnt want it to shit itself 2mins into day 1..

You should be able to get just the tank replaced. I wouldn't mess with plastic welding it. Any plastic radiator tank is prone to cracking due to stress. Plastic welding only adds to this and weakens the area.
You may be suprised at the cost of a proper repair.

I'm pretty sure he means the header tank, aka expansion tank/overflow bottle. Not the radiator tank itself. If so then why not plastic weld it. Wouldnt expect these to be cheap from Jeep. If the radiator has its own cap then the bottle shouldnt have to handle much pressure so go for it, you havent got much to lose. If the radiator cap is on the bottle then you might have trouble with further cracking under pressure.

My bad. I'd say you're right. But still if it's a header tank it should be under pressure.. Just as risky..

I would suggest that a header tank and an expansion/overflow bottle are not the same thing. A header tank being part of the pressurised system and an expansion/overflow bottle being vented to atmosphere for excess fluid recovery. I would weld the overflow bottle but probably not a header tank.

Thanks for your input lads , lt was the header tank and not the bottle l was taking about.i was talked into using a 2 part epoxy resin that can be drilled and tapped after it cures so this stuff must be good this a risk l know but we will see what happens ,FINGERS CROSSED.
