I would like to buy a dual cab Defender 130 for the "Big Trip" for many technical reasons, but a manual transmission is a no no for "reasons".
The idea is to put an accomodation module on the tray(no tents/trailers).
Is it possible to put say a Discovery auto gearbox into a Defender and at what cost?
Who would I approach in SA (or interstate)?

Defender Dualcab conversion to Auto
Moderator: Micka
yup it can be done - try Graham Cooper http://www.lrexpert.com.au/ or Bruce Davis (not sure of his details) but search the board...

Can be done quite easily. I did the same thing to my Rangie. I got the ZF from Triumph (good prices on ZF, if nothing else!) and did it myself with a mate and a lot of beers!!!
The conversion itself is not too difficult if you have basic tools and can get your hand on a transmission jack. Its a b1tch lifting gearbox/xfer case up under there without a jack!!
