Anyone know where these can be bought , or even info on making one, like what to use for a pole etc
2005 TD 100 series GXl wagon . Stock except bar and tyres . Plan on doing lots of touring in this one.
I made one from 5 fibreglass tent pole segments, and clamped it to a 1/2" bolt through the antenna mount on my bull bar. I had to jam plastic into the joints, because they were wearing from vibration, but other than that it worked well.
I think ARB Gawler are selling a similar concept - hopefully something commercial won't have the vibration issues I had.
Other cars in the convoy used lengths of electrical conduit - these flexed more than the tent pole, but that could have been because they used larger flags.

been using condute for years, try and get a 3metre length of 16mm OD and a 2metre lenght of 20mm OD and push the 2metre lenght onto the 3metre length, it can be hard to get 16mm condute sometimes. this give it some good flex when it hits trees etc but will bee stiff enough that it wont crease and bend, using normal orange bunting flags drill 2 small holes at the top to mount the bunting flag and tie off.
if you aren't using uhf mount on bull bar chop head off, clean up and round off a long bolt that would just slip up into the ID of the 16mm condute and lock the bolt onto uhf mount with nuts, washers, spring washers top & bottom.
on the back of the zook i bolted a tube to the spare wheel bracket thats almost roof height and the condute slides in the peice of condute that i have been using would be nearly 8 years old & still going strong!

thanks for the info, liked the idea of the condute until I had a think of how I would transport it , don't have roof racks so makes it a tad difficult. something which folds down would be ok, just a matter of having a think, if not a commercially made one may be the go, seems a tad over kill for a one off trip to robe.

long flags save you stopping all the time to see if the person behind you is still moving as the sand flags tower over alot of the smaller dunes & twisty sections so you see the flag going spastic usually they're still making progress & to avoid the obvious head on.
no flag no right of way IMHO usually they have seen me before i "saw" them and should pull over due to the unkown ahead, could be a convoy of 30 vehicles......... but even then some times the horn is a good option if punching up a twisty section cause there could be someone punching the same section coming the other way, i use a fair bit of horn down there for when i'm about to blat into the unknown!

Try to keep at least one wheel on the ground at all times !!!!!! (unless you want to do a jump....... thats different)
I just use the safety flag out of my work vehicle whenever i can be bothered.

They can be bought with a quick release base and various lengths or ones that can be pulled down to shorter lengths. Can even be bought with a red light on top.
Not the cheapest option though, especcially if you go to Blackmail, i mean Blackwoods.
