100A alternator
Does anyone know of a 100A alternator that would fit the standard vaccuum pump on a hilux/surf with a 1kzt? Any idea what sort of price these babies go for? After installing a second set of lights and a few other bits The alternator can't keep charge in the Auxiliary battery and of course once it drops below 12.7v the solenoid isolates that bettery, then she's farked. Any suggestions/advice appreciated.

Chris.

Diesel actually 1kzt. But I'm drawing maximum current 57 amps while everything is running at night time, 2 sets of spotties, fridge, stereo, recharging battery etc. The 55 amp alternator can't keep up, the poor bugger. Just found out that I can fit a cruiser 110Amp alternator to it, so this is the route I'm going to take.

I ahd a simular problem with my truck.Ended up with two alternators. One added bonus is if one packs it in I will still be getting some charge. The old one is a 35 amp unit and the new one is a 85 amp unit. The new one dosen`t charge till there is a demand.

Hybrid rover ute. Isuzu diesel. Custom suspension. Winch. Snorkel etc. etc.
The cruiser Alternator just about doubles the output of the current alternator so all my problems should be solved. Should also make winching easier as well. I get the truck back tomorrow with the new alt and front locker fitted, then off to Mildura to test the bastard out. A bit of murray sunset and Mungo Nat Park. Should be an easy drive but will still let me test the operation of it.

I would be interested to know what brand/make the alternator is, I spoke to an auto electrician mate the other day and he said there wasn't much available for cruisers that need the vaccum pump on the back. He did say that it was possible (and very easy) to rewire a cruiser alternator so that it doubles its output, BUT, it puts a lot more load on it so it is prone to wearing out quicker. Will see if I can get instructions from him and post on here if anyone is interested.
Fitted the 110A alternator from a 1HZ. Everything fits fine except for the tensioner bracket, this applies to 1kzt motors but would probably also be the same for other toyota 4 cyl diesels. The tensioner bracket has to be modified in order to get enough swing on the alternator to get proper tension on the belts. Nothing to dramatic it just needs to be extended another 2 inches or so. I should have pics up here tomorrow evening for anyone interested.

Here is the modified bracket for a 1kzt.
I've extended it by 2 inches to be able to get the proper adjustment and have room for further adjustment.

Below is the comparison of the standard 1kzt alternator and the 1hz alternator.
