Don't know if this is the right place to ask? But !!!!!!! Does any one know what type of aerial i should run on my patrol so a can run my hand held scanner, Will a normal uhf aerial work fine?

It all depends on what you want to scan. VHF, UHF, HF Etc as an antenna is only efficent in a certain band.

Work out what you want to scan and if you wand to scan the whole band, get yourself a wide band scanning antenna.

Most of those are in the 400-500MHz range, so a UHF CB antenna should be fine. Don't get a really high gain one, as they have a much narrower bandwidth.

Can't listen to the police anymore anyway as they are all digital now.
If you can , can you please let me know what scanner you have purchased.

Should be able to with a digital scanner as the transmissions are not encoded but they are not cheap and even then may be hit and miss.
