Not meaning to sound like a smart ass but have you pressed the button on the side of the transfer case shifter?

Last time i had this problem, it turned out my drivers side CV was broken. Don't wanna put you off but you might want to check them and see how they are.

busted cvs would probably make some nasty noises when trying to turn and making steering an issue. Has you lock to lock steering distance changed? could be an axle.
At first I thought it was a sea anemone, upon closer inspection I realised it was a funky ball of tits from outer space.

The hubs are engaged via vacuum on these I think??? Did old mate that checked the pump check the whole system? Could be a split or disconnected vacuum line.

Could also be an electrical problem. The A.D.D is activated via solenoids and unless the A.D.D is engaged the light on the dash will not come on. These have been known to fail. I'd check wiring and connections, could be mud in the connections or corrosion inhibiting the circuit. Next on the list would be the solenoids and air lines. Process of elimination. This has also been covered on the Toyota surf site to some extent so jump on there and do a search. Let me know how you go mate.

Cheers,

Chris.

hello all, thanks for the info, i will get a chance on wednesday night to check these things out, just to let yoy know i went out on the weekend and the hubs seem to lock in about 50% of the time. Its weird you press the button and if they come on all is good, but if they dont i can press the button on and off and might not come on at all. If i leave it 4 a while then press it sometimes it works, but i will check all of the things mentioned above and let everyone know. thanks again bear

My brother had auto hubs on his lux. Best thing he ever did was ditch them for manual hubs.

If the 4wd light on the dash isn't blown, I'd be looking at the transfer side of things. The tailshaft will spin if you have the hibs locked and the car moves forward . The only way to check is to lift the front end and spin the wheels by hand.
But I'd be looking for a dodgy solinode on the transfer side of things.
