Hard Tops -> Soft Tops

Hey guys,
I lurk around here every day, and am still scrambling to get myself a Sierra. I have my eye after a soft-top but the hard tops seem to be around alot at the moment for a better price? Does that make it logical to buy a hard top, and buy a soft-top of Maria and convert it? Is it possible/easy?

Appreciate the advice, hope to own one soon :P Look like alot of fun hehe

Dont think it would really worth it to buy a tin top and chop it down into soft top. If you like the soft tops just find yourself one and save the hassle.

Just my opinion...

it's possible, but not easy... gonna be a hell of a lot of work, but do-able if you're good with a grinder and welder. if ur set on a s/top and aren't that handy, then either wait for for one to come up, or pay someone to do it ;)

get a soft top and a removable hard top.. there is one in the for sale section now.. :D
my missus has a vitara softop with the removable hardtop and she loves it. i prefer tin top as it will tend to be slightly more secure.
2" Susp lift, Ext shackles, RTC damper; Offsets, Custom interior panels, Stereo (+Sub), rubber Checkerplate floor, Custom Centre console, Under bonnet storage
Soon: Aircon + tinting?

I got both a HT and a ST
Feels alot safer in the HT with a roof overhead
I also like the idea of a HT in winter more that ST in summer
You can also lock a HT up so you can leave stuff in it when you run into the shop
The difference in top weight is hardly noticable
Soft tops have a bigger pose factor though

Go the hard top! Soft tops are a pain in the arse once you get over the whole driving with no roof thing. My 40 series was a softie and nothing sucks more than having to run out of the house in the middle of the night in the rain to put your roof back on! I have a soft top sierra which is mid-way through getting a hard top conversion!

SOFT !!!!

i have a soft top , rain .......ppffffttttt !!!
haven,t had a full roof for over 4 years !!!
Only front 1/2 (fibreglass)
when wheelin , leaning over onto banks & rutts feels better , no crunching panel noises , or worse , breaking glass exploding behind your ears !!!! :D

I got my soft top for only $800! Keep looking!

I'd say go a soft top, as someone else said you can always go the hard top later.

And I tell you what, glad I had a soft top yesterday, possibly could have done some damage if I had a hard top!

try find a softy with a fibreglass roof thats what ive got then you have many options to seasons weather etc fibreglass also easy to repair if you do some damage

I had a ST, never took the canvas off, was annoying actually especially touring thru high country for 4-5 days.
When i damaged my ST body, i found a HT cheap and put that on my ST chassis. Best thing, i love the tintop, its weatherproof, so many more options for storage, etc...

hey mate thats the removable fibreglass hardtop that we are all talking about.. takes a few minutes to remove and you can still put on a bikin or full soft top onto it. crazy colour :P
