alternator trouble 84 rangie
Moderator: Micka
alternator trouble 84 rangie
got a problem sourcing a replacement/new alternator for my 3.5l 84' rangie, been quoted up around $400 for a replacement, not wanting to spend that much, have heard you can use a 85 amp au one, however cos the taco input feeds off the alternator and I want to keep the taco going, any ideas or prev experience, cant seem to find any recod lucas aletrnators either???
What side of the engine is the alternator?
If left a TN Magna 85 amp will fit. One cost me $200 a couple of years ago.
See the recent thread on AULRO forum.
The tacho just needs a field wire added, cost $40.
If RHS I think an old Falcon one XB? fits.
But I think they only come in max 60amp.

Have also heard about people using commo alternates.
Spose i could be asking a dumb question here but why cant the pully be swaped / changed whatever from a serpintine to a v pully?
I have a spare alternater from a 89/90 injected 3.5 that mounts on the passenger side of the motor. Is this able to be used in the above problem?

99% of alternator pulleys swap directly from one to another in my experience. You just need a rattle gun to get the nut off.
Anyway if AU alternators fit then EA alternators should fit, these have a vee belt pulley and definitely come in 85A. Have a look at my custom falcon alternator install on a G60 motor in the auto elec section.
