how much do you pay for a rig before you cut it up and start building
a tuff rig ?????????? . i know a bloke that payed 40k for a patrol and has cut the shit out of it and is making a rig . my buy price was $1400

man i spose it depends how much money u got but if u start with a newer sort of truck than the easier it is to modify because the metal will have no rust and be alot less stressed

depends what the model of rig your going for.
a solid axle hilux is alot cheaper than a GU...
cheapest rig, leave moire money for mods

depends on the person i suppose.
I brough my gu ute new and 1st rego is how you see it now( 43k new)

mate has a lux..i think paid about 4k and its now cost almost 40k
Ive never done a starter motor,alternater,belts,gearbox,diffs,

with older cars you are going to have problems with the above.its not if it will happen but WHEN

having a new car was a good decision for me as back then (04) i didnt know much about anything mechanical..I do know a little now.

If i was to do it again now i would get a older cheap GU and do a lot myself

I know of a Patrol that had 1 500kms when it went on a Qld/NT Border trip. Came back from this with about 7 000kms and got the chop. Now a dual cab with Extended Wheel Base.
