I was just over helping a mate who has "bought for a slab" a 2L NA diesel Hiace ( ex Casey Chambers van) , auto of all things.
It will not rev over 2000RPM, free or under load.
It starts perfectly on all cylinders, and idles well. No black grey or blue smoke. It has done 313K
We drained the tank, blew out the fuel lines and replaced the filter and refilled with nice new diesel. No change.
Pulled off the air inlet to manifold , no change. And the filter was good anyway
What next?
AFAIK it can only be the injection pump and or injectors. Injectors usually drool and go rich AFAIK.
I would appreciate any ideas of any simple (ie cheap to fix problems ) , as if its the pump , then its probably not worth paying a king's ransom to fix , as it is not regod so will have to go over the pits.

With engine off, check to see if your getting full throttle.
Put foot on full throttle, (engine off), check to see if there is any more movement available at the injector pump, adjust as needed.
how thick is the oil???

Thanks for that.
We have had the engine lid off the whole time and I have moved the fuel control directly fully open.
The oil is black but thin/correct
Today I had the owner run the engine with the pump pulling directly from a 4 litre tin of new diesel. No difference .
So I think we have eliminated a fuel blockageand /or air blockage.
Unless thereis a little mesh filter on the pump inlet. Anyone know?
