It sucks balls mateI had a modified car when I was 18 and insurance was a c%nt to get. I wound up going with RACQ by telling some little fibs
I'd advise against this but it was my only option back then. What's your rig because that'll make a big difference.
Try justcars etc or that specialist 4wd insurance group (anyone supply the name and a link?) but their prices reflect their clients. What gets my goat is the penalties for small modsSomeone drivin a 4by with sensible mods is likely to actually be a safe, good driver, car control is our hobby. Some crazy homie in a skyline is not and is probably gonna crash
We get tarred with the same brush which pisses me off

it has a 186 Holden donk in it, and other insurers classified this non standard engine as a 'High Powered Engine'
dude, what happens when you run someone over and they sue you for say $2 000 000 in damages.
No third party or public liability is rediculous....

here in Vic we HAVE to by law pay COMPULSARY 3rd party insurance, its part of the regristration form.....
Current one arrived last week and reads....
Registration fee..................................$157.00
TAC Premium*(inc $15.90 GST)...........$175.00
insurance duty....................................$ 17.50
...................................total due..........$349.50
If I drove it around unregistered and got caught then I'd be fined for ..
1: unregistered vehicle
2: uninsured Vehicle
3: unroadworthy vehicle
I'd also be charged with the more serious crime of attempting to defraud the state govt... somehow its seen that way if you dont pay em !!
