steering box leaking need some advice

Post by hulsty »

G'day all

Today i noticed that my steering box is leaking from near where the steering shaft goes into the box by the looks of it where two bits of cast housing bolt together, is it a simple fix of just replacing a seal or a reco? If a reco would a power steering box to suit a 90-95 75 series fit my 85 73 series? i dont see them being much different but best to check

cheers

If u can get hold of a seal kit, fix it... otherwise I dont know.

I found a kit for my box and worked really well.

well i just got a price of $160 for a kit and the bloke says really not to worry about it and get a reco box because the shafts wear a groove in them where the seals fit.

SO next questions

would a 75 series steering box 90-95 years fit my 85 FJ73?

cheers

cant you put a speedy sleave or something over the shaft? then put the seal kit in?

damn sight cheeper then another box, i bought a so called "reco" box from the wreckers cost me $300 odd, and 3 months later leaking oil :bad-words:
