whats needed for a real basic spoa

just want to no whats needed for a real basic spoa 4 off roader?will use original spring perches and what ever else i can salvage.can i use a 3inch drop pit man arm instead of a z link or over the top steering system?

Not trying to rain on your parade but I dont think you can say basic and safe in a sentance about spoa. Im saying this from experience 2 of my zooks have been spoa. The 1st one was converting nt to wt and the diffs where already spoa to suit. BUT you will need a track bar I use to reset the s bend out of my rear springs after every trip. You will also need to relocate shock points. For awhile I used standard top mounts and the u bolt shock mount for the bottom mount, but as the u bolt bracket is on top of the springs it dosnt allow much up travel.
Also if you dont relocate your bump stops you will gradually de arch the springs as they can now go past flat.
You will need more than a drop pitman arm. I paid $300 for mine and for that money you could get a hi steer setup.
As I 1st said not trying too talk you out of it as my current zook is spoa, but research it properly 1st.

Need to be able to weld,also be capable with a grinder,9inch and 4 inch,must be careful not to cut into axle tube. You must have a 4 degree lean towards rear on king pin bearings. Need tail shaft spacers or extend them. Need break lines to be longer,best way is to move break line feeds to centre of diff,then use a tee brake line and redo brake line to the wheels,but you need to be a bit mechanically minded. Also need to make a rear trek bar to stop axle rap,spring damage. When welding rear spring pads on angle diff centre to point directly at the transfer case flange,as this will improve uni angle,s Cheers Paul.

there is a difference to doing it cheap because you have the skilz, as opposed to doing it half arsed to save dollars

ok having siad that, there is heaps of tech here on doing the cut and rotate on the diff, forget brand of diff used thet are all the same concept

there is also heaps of tech on zook specific stuff like histeer etc.

do it as cheap as you can by all means but dont try and skip anything and comprimise on safety.

use the search function, try and understan better what needs to be done then come back and post a list of stuff you need better answers on and you will get a far better reception

btw imo the time and effort you need to try and salvage oldperches you are better making or buyig sew ones, also dont use ald u bolt, they stretch and will not take bak up properly again, always use new one, take the time to replace bushes etc while you are there and get some one who has some expereince to give you a hand

Been down this road in the event of getting a not so well done SPOA Sierra.

I ended up leaving the old perches on the bottom and buying ones from

snakeracing.com I think they were $150 for the four, not worth my time and effort making them and they were 5mm laser cut.

When you go the drop Pittman arm whith SPOA even with standard springs the stearing link still rubbed on the springs.

You can flip the plates over and mount everything pretty much standard, though you will need some longer brake lines made.

At the end of the day if you do a dodgy job you will just be going back re fixing things.
