LPG Gas Rebate $2000. Can i claim?

hi guys

I have a 88 maverick and it has been on duel fuel all it's life untill like 3 weeks ago when i have got all brand new Gas research gear throttle body convter etc and also had a new gas tank fitted a few months back.

They say if the car has been on gas before hand i'm not able to claim but i have just repalced all that gas gear with brand new stuff to suit my turbo and my old stuff was out of date really the tank was a bit rusty and my mixer was playing up.

So if i have got all my old gear removed and all new stuff fitted by a LPG specialist would i be able to claim ?

No you cannot claim it if the vehicle was listed on the rego as duel fuel originally. Thats why you have to send a copy of the install ticket and the rego papers. If you replace anything it is classed as maintenance on the system which is your problem. Its just the government saving on the pennies.
It all falls into the same boat as the fact that you can only claim one grant every 3 years. Its just the government holding on to the purse strings. I got mine thru nice and easy but i have heard of some people having dramas as of late!

You probably should have removed lpg and re-registered vehicle as straight petrol, then had it converted to dual fuel. This may have been one way of getting around it.

Speak to gas bloke, he may have a shifty way of getting it through. I spoke to a bloke a while ago about getting additional tanks fitted and claiming rebate. He reckoned he could do it, very shifty though. I've since put plans on hold.

Moral is don't be upfront and 100% legit with a shifty gov't. Their are loopholes, it's a case of being shifty enough yourself to find and use these loopholes to your advantage.

Without any expertise on the matter i can't elaborate any further. Sounds to me though since you've already had work done and paid for it, might be too late.

Just a suggestion: You could buy an old banger and have it converted to dual fuel using your old equipment, then claim rebate. The only proviso is it's fitted by a reg'd fitter. The equipment can be 2nd hand, the job could cost $4000 or $40, doesn't matter, you still get $2000 from gov't.

On the recipt the guy wrote that he had removed the old fuel system and fitted a brand new LPG system. I also said when i brought the car off my parents it had on petrol working not both gas and petrol so that's why i need to buy all the new equipment.

So really if you buy a second hand car that's got dual fuel and on the rego says that it has lpg/petrol and when u get the car the lpg doesn't work at all and everything needs replacing due to the fact it's 18 years old and farked up they won't give u the rebate becuase the car was on gas previous.

Seems like a load of shit for those who are trying to keep there cars on lpg but do need a complete upgrade not just a new brass fitting or something.

I do understand if i was only repalcing say the converter or something very small on the lpg side of things and wanted to claim the $2000 but i have completly re done the whole system and had the dual fuel removed and now just got straight gas.
