1HD-T intercooling?

Post by pridhac »

Folks,

A friend of mine recently added a small intercooler to his factory turbo Navara, and achieved quite a spectacular gain in RWHP and torque (he had it dynoed before and after on the same dyno on the same day). He used a small sidemount intercooler that (I think) was from an R32(?) Skyline, which he bought for $20. Using a few rubber elbows, bought for $1ea from the wreckers, and two lengths of exhaust pipe from Windsor Exhaust ($10) he plumbed it in in an hour.

I have a 1HD-T, and plenty of room under the bonnet. Is it going to work to install a similar intercooler on this motor? Will I have to do extra stuff to make it work?

If your sahara is a pre 95, het a beaudesert 3 inch mandrel exhaust on it, then look for a larger turbo as the std one looses blades, larger are on hdft, then intercool it from www.airpowersystems.com.au check out some of their goods...

Keep an eye on ebay, saw a safari turbo and intercooler kit go for 1600 a few months back, that would have bolt straight on....the std hdt turbo has problems with overspeed if you boost it up, so suggest a later turbo from a hdft or similar safari offering. With an intercooler, you loose boost through restriction, so you need to boost higher to retain thesame max psi at manifold.
