2L knock culprit found...sort of... any ideas?

Post by kevdog »

missus drove the shite box fore runner to work the other morning and left it on the side of the road coz it slowed down a little then commenced a horrid knocking noise...( i then drove it home... nasty knock)

dropped sump...bits of metal and glittery oil...

lifted head.... can clearly see the 0.05 OS stamped backwards into the head from the top of the piston....

so i'm thinking big end or maybe little... it was low on oil due to me leaving the sump plug seal off on the oil change... only saw the large puddle on the ground after she left...( it is hard to tell really because of the significant power steering leak) but anyway....

i am assuming that the 4th piston/rod got hot and stuffed bearing so i should be able to just replace bearing and the old girl will be mobile again...

any flaws in my plan? (just bear in mind i have gotten this truck on the road for under 3 grand so i aint spending heaps  )

update....

main bearing removed... bit thinner than it used to be... a nice bluey colour and a little chewed out... methinks maybe new rod and bearings or maybe just crank grind and bearings....

if i had a photobucket thingy i would post pics but i dont...

does anyone else think this sounds like oil/ heat problem?
