Cost estimate for coils and diffs

Post by mud guts »

Hmmm I have a duel cab and thinking of putting landcruiser or patrol diffs in with coils all round and some bad ass shocks. Just want stronger, wider, rear disks, travel. Can anybody give me some costs for second hand. All ready have high steer, will this fit to other diffs(wider)? Can you get late model diffs with 4.88?

I was looking at doing the same to my 60 series...after getting prices for just the basic items needed I was up to about $3500-$4000 straight up.

Then there comes the cost (if you cant do it yourself) of getting it all converted.

Its in the ball park. I am also considering coilovers if the price is right. I would like to think I can compete at some stage, and would like to do it right from the start. I’m banking on getting 4.88’s because my 4 pot wont turn anything lower, otherwise i’ll be doing v8 first. I like where professor took his.

GQ kinda setup, someone doing all the work prolly around $6G at mates rates... my list of shit;
GQ of course
diffs 800
rebuilding diffs 500
rear sus 700
front sus 1000 (panhard adds alot as im using adjustable)
steering may need to be changed depending on what you have.
driveshafts 600 (as i need new ones)
plus moving rear fuel tank, steel and a few other small things i cant think of atm.

so ive spent atleast (ive changed a few times, sold things bought things so its only roughly)
$3G doing it all myself as a guide and ive spent more than that
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown

Chunderlicious is about right.
I put gq diffs under my lux
I spent 1000 on diffs, 600 rebuilding and a mate put them under my lux for 3000.
Drive shafts cost me 350 for rear and 250 for front.
But you will need the gq shafts and the lux shafts for that price.
You will need a bit more for things that pop up and 600 for engineering.
I also have changed a few things since, i am in the process of putting duel transfers and have had to change my shaft lengths again.

Thanks fellas. maitlandboy, when you said rebuild diffs, was that to change ratio, or were they stuffed.

more of a safety thing, spend a grand on diffs and have them fall apart because they are old and worn out. if you wanna do it right the first time may aswell rebuild it when theyre out.

as chunderlicious said saftey issues, one of my rear axles was stuffed.
A nd while ther out make them like new.
Replace all seals and bearings, and check your centres.
Make sure your front ratios are the same as your rear ratios, sound stupid.

Just go 80s front and GQ rear as you can get 4.88 gears for both of them and the nissan rear will give you a center pinion out put.
I have just done this to a zook and the rear diff cost about $2,500 thats 4.88 gears and ARB locker complete. It is running coil overs and custom link set up.
You could run the standard 80s front arms with coil overs with X link and A frame or 4 link the rear with coil overs
With the 80s front diff you can get crome moly CVs for it and the 80s come with better brakes and steering lock then the Hilux diffs and you could just put a 4.88 hilux center in it as it will save you some cash but you will lose the Hi pinion.

i was going to mention to mud that an 80 front is the better option and the GQ rear is good.

This truck looks very neat and tidy.
Love the way the rear is working and the front looks ok.
