Ok ive now done 150Ks and used 1/4 tank aprox but still i press the sub tank button and the light goes on then off after a couple of seconds. Also when i switch the reds on i get a light that says Fuel Tank on the dash whats this for?
Anyone know of an owners manual on line for one of these?
Also can i fit Cruise control from another 80 that was factory fitted with cruise? Does such a thing even exsist?

The petrols suck directly from the sub, the diesels (as the fuel is non volatile) pump from sub to main.
RV 80 is correct. In the petrols there is a low pressure transfer pump that pumps fuel directly from the sub tank into the main tank.
The reason this is designed this way is it allows the use of 1 high pressure fuel pump to be used for both tanks.
In the diesels, when you select the sub fuel button, it switches a solenoid that changes the fuel pickup to the sub tank. Because the fuel pump in the diesels is attached to the motor, it doesnt require a high pressure fuel pump at the tank.
As for your question ruff, you will find you wont be able to fill the main tank from the sub tank until you have less than 3/4 of a tank in the main tank. The sub fuel system will only allow fuel to transfer until the main tank is 3/4 full and then will shut off. (the 3/4 mark is a rough estimate)
When the sub tank is completely drained, it will automatically shut off the transfer pump.
The fuel tank warning light on the dash will illuminate on reds. If this remains on after the car starts, it indicates there is a problem with the fuel tank(s) system. If you listen when you start the car, you will hear a solenoid click in the fuel system. I think it runs a diagnose on it at start up and runs the transfer pump for a brief period just to keep the system operational. As you could expect in this day and age, a lot of people would probably chose not to fill their sub tank regularly.
As for cruise control, yes there was a factory option and yes you can retrofit it to your cruiser. I think you may even be able to contact toyota and purchase a new kit. Don't quote me on that though. There are plenty of aftermarket kits that work just as well though and dont cost the earth.

there are floats in the main tank that control the fuel transfer from auxiliary. If main is above 3/4 it wont stay on, if it is below that, the pump will pump till it gets there then stop automatically....when the sub gets to empty, again the pump auto stops....the main tank has the efi pump in it, thats why its like that...the 100 series has a priming pump in the sub that pumps to the efi pump, so u can run a 100 petrol like an 80 diesel.(select a tank and draw from it)
