Power Windows Repairs?

Post by SiNH »

Hi All,

My drivers side power window is not functioning anymore, whats worse is that they are almost all the way down.

Can anyone recommend a power windows specialist in the Sydney SouthWest area for me to take this to get repaired?

I have a 1993 GQ.

I have tried removing the door trim and manually turned the winder but it just goes round and round in freeplay and the window doesnt move at all.

Please help

Have you checked for power at the motor. Not had bother with mine but they must be controlled by a relay somewhere. Put a meter or test bulb on the connection and earth to check for power.

Nah motor is fine, no problems there.

Its with the knob that goes into the door skin, the other end must be rounded off and not catching on something.

So yeah the motor is 100% working, the problem is within the door skin, an area I havent got access to.

More then likely it will be the plastic piece of shit cog that goes between the motor adn the winder cog on the window frame. Both mine have shagged out and its just a matter of getting them from nissan or elsewhere and putting them in

I have fixed three 3 of mine. The spindle that drives the sector gear on the window regulator breaks because it is die cast rubbish. I have a two step method. If you clean as best as possible and can get some high shear strength loctite into the gear you can re glue it. failing that they can be welded with 2 big washers. Also the rubber shock mount on the worm driven gear shears as well but again you can remove the rubber and rebuild using epoxy

Nah that piece is still in perfect condition, the fault is definately something inside the door skin. I just havent been game enough to remove the whole thing to see what is actually the problem.

Ended up taking it to a local autoelectrician and he managed to get a 2nd hand regulator from the wreckers and it worked out to be $180 all up.

Abit steep for a 2nd hand unit but at least the window is working again.

without starting a new thread...

both passenger side windows go down fine, but only come back up a few inches and then sort of "die" (when passenger switches are used) but they work up and down perfectly when operated from the drivers door switch. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Bad contacts in the switch. Mine do it from time to time too. Pain in the arse.

You've got to strip the switches down being careful not to lose fiddly little pieces and give the contacts a bit of a clean with a file, etc. Should keep you going for a while till they corrode up again.
